I know the Rev installed an aftermarket auto dimming mirror but has anyone checked if our trucks are prewired for a factory one?

Mine is a SE and the dealership parts guy said there isn't a harness. The Rev. has a DIY install thats looks simple, just requires time to get it done. Nissan should have incl. that option on the nismo. :(

I had a local accessory shop install one in my NISMO. I got the Gentex 50-GENK50, which includes the Compass, Temp Gage, and HomeLink with the Auto Dimming Mirror. I paid more going through the local shop, but didn't have the time to do the install myself, and after getting home and finding out the HomeLink function was dead, I'm glad I chose a local installer! Saved me the headache of doing a return and replacement, They have a new mirror on order that should be in sometime today or tomorrow. Being as it's already wired, it should be an easy 5 minute swap of the mirrors and a function check to make sure all the functions are working correctly! Other than the glitch with the HomeLink, everything else works great!

prewired

As far as it goes, with king cab models the truck is not prewired for the auto dimming rearview mirror. The crew cabs may be but I doubt it. All you have to do is take the driver Pillar handle off, pull the door seal out (only in the areas that the pillar covers), remove the lower door sill and the lower light grey garanish, take out the little vent on the Pillar then pull the Pillar gentley toward the center of the car and then up. Look at the harness that runs along the Frame and follow it to a little 12 cavity white plug and look for more than three wires (Look for a Violet, Light Green, White w/ Green Stripe, Red w/ Yellow Stripe, Black, and Brown Wires. There may be more if you have a sunroof)going to the female side (Main Car Harness dashboard side)

My truck is the crew cab with a sunroof. I figured if they ran the wires for the sunroof why couldn't they run the wiring for the mirrors. It seems like they would use the same wiring from the pathfinder and those have autodimming mirrors.

Just check to see if you see the wires you need from the dashboard side then if you have the wires there then just go to the dealership and tell them you need the harness that goes to the autodimming mirror. If the wires are not already run then you won't need to bother getting the harness becuase then you would have to run the new wires anyway to the factory nissan conector and somehow find the proper pins to put on the wires to fit in the connector. If you want I can give you the wiring diagram straight from nissan for the autodimming mirror.

I have the wiring harness with the ambient sensor connector in front of the A/C condensor. I also have fuses in my inside fuse box for the auto dimming mirror. I would think that the other wires are there for the mirror since the temp sensor is in the system. I have not checked for the inside harness yet.

guys - there was another thread on this a couple moths back, discussing the same thing including the wiring. If I remember right, if you don't have the mirror, you don't have the harness (I guess that would be too easy). Although one guy had his installed at the dealership, and they did it pretty quickly.

How would you explain the ambient sensor harness if that's the case? I have it on my truck as do others on this board.

I bought the Gentex mirror - how do I get the factory mirror off the glued on windshield mount?

put a tiny screwdriver up the small hole where the mirror attaches to the cleat that's glued to the window. then slide upwards, but don't go crazy. you can yard the mirror off too harshly and that could result in scratches to your window coating or a ding in the roof. i just installed an exon science mirror ($50 off ebay!!) and it works like a charm.

Do the Gentex compass/temperature mirrors use the same mirror mounting point as the Nissan SE factory mirror, i.e. does the Gentex require you to glue a new mirror footing on the windshield?

I think my SE has the ambient temperature sensor mounted right where Zero Six LE says. It's a darn shame that us SE/Nismo people can't use it and it's wiring. Yep, my wife's Subaru Forester has a plug and play harness ready to go for their factory compass mirror. It's a cinch to install.

My Gentex mirror used the factory mirror button. Couldn't tell you about the ambiant temp sensor though.

I put on the GENTEX and it fits on the stock mount. Hard to get the factory mirror off though - I cut a chunk out of my finger. I would be surprised if you have the ambient temp sensor on an SE. I have an 07 SE CC and there was no sensor and none of the wiring.
I'm pretty sure the GENTEX is the same mirror that they put on the LE's with the temp and compass display. The pictures and instructions in the owner's manual look exactly like the GENTEX I added.
