So our front diffs use an R180. Looks like the R180 was used in other trucks liek 4 banger 1st gen frontiers (r180A) and the 720 (r180). Will a gear set from one of those work in ours??

Not that i am going to do it. Jsut wondering.

I believe the 180 come from the thickness of the gears. If remember the gears are cut deferent also.

I know they can be cut different. The 180 is 180mm diameter of the ring gear.

But the question still stands. I assume there is a difference between the R180A and the R180. But are they the same as the ones we have in our trucks now.

I know they can;t use the same gear because I looked in to it 4 years ago but I don't have a technical explanation beside they don't fit.
