Android Auto video/movie hacks?

You wrote that your videos are loaded on an SD card. Which suggests that you could copy them to a USB memory stick. I don't know much about the 3rd gen infotainment systems, but I assume they still have a USB port. The question is whether the head unit supports video and, if so, which file formats. I bet the OEM head unit does not play video of any kind. But it still might be worth looking into.

After-market decks with touchscreens usually support video. For example, the Pioneer that I have plays MP4 video files from the USB port.
