Well, after 3 rolls @ 15$ apiece I got my dr an pass side fronts done....
It really is a craft you know? I can cut all sorts of wood, mitres, mortises,
dado's.... window film is kind of "tricky". I wonder if any one else has done this for themself's here?

1. wet the outside of the window with windex and stick the film on there backward (this is your template).
2. Clean the inside of the window WELL.
3. wet the inside of the window again.
4. peel the film and wet the sticky side.
5. place the film on the window. The windex will let you move it around.
6. Start working the bubbles out. (bondo putty knifes work great).
7. Clean up the drips of window cleaner.

I've tried to do it myself several times... and everytime I've given up and taken the car into a tint shop to do it right.
It really does take some skill and patience.

Patience young jedi. It took me a couple crappy cars worth of tint to where I trusted myself to do it right on my vehicles but I'm happy with my tinting nowadays. Also, I feel that nice tint is much easier to apply than autoparts store tints

I fail at doing window tint! I got the idea from my dad whos trucks always looks really good. He said it's easy and gave me a quick rundown of how the mast does it. I even took the window out and laid it on a work bench to make it better...No, I stopped at a waste of $15 bucks and said I fail.

I did mine on the Frontier and my Hardbody before that. There is definitely a learning curve... The tint on the Frontier is good, but not perfect. Well worth the $20 worth of tint I bought at WalMart. Ditto on taking the door windows out. I was able to get the edge of the tint all the way to the edge that way.

I would avoid Windex, especially if it contains ammonia. Most tint glue is actually removed using ammonia. The tint I used specifies using non-ultra lemon Joy (one tablespoon I think) mixed with a gallon of distilled water. Cleaning the heck out of the windows on both sides first and a steady hand go a long way.

All of that said, it really is kind of a pain to do, and good professionally installed tint is pretty affordable in most areas. I did my own this time because I wanted it done that night and had a few hours available.

I've probably done 10 vehicles. And I'm still not very good. It is super hard there's no doubting that.

The pre-cut tint sold on ebay really is great. I take the door panel off to make it easy and always end up getting perfect results. Plus it costs less than two rolls to do your whole car. If the seller has the option, go with the upgraded thick stuff.

oh yeah, if those windows are not factory clean, it doesnt matter how good you are.

LOL - I just asked about this the other day when I went to get my truck washed. The window tinting place was open right next door. The said 30$ a window. I almost thought about it but they did not have the tint I wanted. I wanted a lighter color than the front.
Also, it's illegal to do the fronts in our State. It's a ticket.

After Market Window Tint

Wow, I guess I'm not alone here... In retrospect, I could have paid someone?
But, I really do like to do things for myself,i.e (satisfaction) and I am "slightly"
impatient,I know I must have spent umm 6-7 hrs on the labor and 50$ on the "film" too:thatswck: Anyhow, it's done (photo's soon)... I used 35% legal in N.H. (unless) you are tinting over pre-factory tint (I think) So after my 2nd try
I got home @ 6 pm w/t darkness approaching.....I got semi~pro results on 1 side... now I am like "should I finish this or..drive around for a couple days w/t 1 side undone?:thatswck: So (in the dark w/t the community garage lights at my condo (motion activated):fantastic: I kept going.....you really, really need a second set of hands , but there I am:hi: too funny..I did get the 2nd 0ne done in about half the time. only thing was the next morning, I realized that I had also captured to black~flys in my passenger window %#!*
:goodjob:

STAY TUNED! (my nerf~bars come on sat/sun)
