I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2010 Frontier Pro-4X, however my situation is a little different then most of yours. I am stationed in Europe and about to buy the truck from a dealer that special orders U.S. spec vehicles. The only problem is that the factory Nissan warranty is not honored over seas. The dealer has a warranty I can buy that is $1,995 and is a 7/70. I can decline the warranty if I want, but I want a warranty obviously. I was wondering if any of you guys knew of any after market warranty companies I could check out? If I can find a decent warranty for cheaper else where I will go that route. Thanks everyone.

Don't pay the asking price for the warranty. Never pay the asking price. Dicker with the dealer. A few years ago an article came out that explained that those warranties are priced about 50% more than the dealer pays for them. My experience is that you should be able to get the warranty for about $600+ less than what they are asking for it.

When I bought my used 2005 Frontier with 78K on the clock I wanted a warranty and was offered a 2 year 24K warranty for $1850. I looked at him and offered $1000 knowing that every dime he made on the warranty added to his commission on the sale.
He countered immediately with $1300...too quickly, his mistake. I talked him down to $1150. They have lots of room to deal on warranties so don't get yourself screwed and paying his wages for the month in one sale.

When I bought my Murano in 04 I bought a 75K 7 year warranty for $1400 that started out as a $2200 warranty before we got serious about it. So...you have work to do and stand your ground. He wants to sell it to you, badly, remember that.

He has the warranty listed on the price break down sheet for $1995, he said they pay $1100-$1200 and he could probably get it for me for their cost. However, both of my parents were in the car business for a long time and they told me this may be the case, but he more then likely gets those warranties for $600-$800, which is fine, they do have to make a little bit of money off of me, I would just prefer to minimize how much it is. I will probably end up going with his warranty for $1000-$1200, but if I can find some cheaper ones that can be some good leverage for my haggling. Regardless, I'm going to tell him I'm shopping around on the warranty to see if he budges.

Thank you for responding. Any help is appreciated. I have never bought a new car over seas and this is definitely a different experience then it is in the States.

Air Force. Thanks for your service.

My take on this varies greatly depending if you are more like an E3 or more like an O3. I really hate to see young servicemen get tied into expensive vehicle and payments, etc... Seen it go bad many times.

So you are going to buy a truck. Pay for a 7 year warranty. And then ship stateside in a couple years max after you rotate through. You only get to use a coupe years of the warranty.

Will this vehicle be warranted by Nissan USA when you ship it back? Or no?

My serious recommendation is that between the shipping, warranty, etc... buying a vehicle like that overseas right now may not be the best option. Wait until you get someplace stateside.

Can you lease for the duration of your tour? What about a used Italian Spec and then just sell it.

Anyway, a couple thoughts...

I am an E-3 about to make E-4. I would not be considering a vehicle if it weren't for other circumstances.

I bought a brand new Dodge Ram my senior year of high school, paid in full, which I sold to my mom one month before I came over seas, that is $250 a month she is paying me. I am married, and my wife is in the military as well. We aren't officers, but we do pretty well with our lack of expenses and in-expensive tastes. I have a very good credit score with a decent amount of credit history, so the best interest rate a bank can offer is what I will receive. Insurance is not a huge issue because I have never had any accidents or violations, along with the being married/multi car discount makes my rate pretty decent. On top of those, I will be comfortably putting $10,000 down. I've been very smart with my money through the years. I can understand the worries though, I do see some young service members end up in a bind.

The warranty is good State side, and over seas. Shipping is not an issue, I never shipped a vehicle here on my orders, so the AF will be covering the shipping here, and back home at the end of my tour here in 2012.
