Ok, so I added a trans temp gauge today, as I have done the bypass and wanted to monitor it. Going to an a cooler tomorrow as well. So I have seen that people have mounted the gauge below the hvac controls in a blank panel for those without 4wd. Well, mine just has a cubby hole type thing there. So I was looking on Courtesy parts: 680 Instrument Panel, Pad & Cluster Lid :: Body(Front,Roof & Floor) :: Genuine Nissan Parts :: Frontier Parts (D40) 2005-2010 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

In the second illustration down, it looks like there is a cubby hole with a gauge type hole next to it. Since there is no picture of the actual part, I am a little skeptical of it actually looking like that. The part number, from what I can tell is: 25412-D40008 (25412MC in the pic). Can't find any info anywhere else on that part number. Can anyone confirm what that part number looks like? I found a truck listed on ebay that had this setup in it, 4wd switch and storage next to it, just want to verify the part number for that.

Well, still trying to verify that part number, sent Scott @ Fontana a pm on it.

I did get the trans cooler installed yesterday. Got a perma cool with fan, mounted it in front of the radiator and was actually able to use the same soft lines that were on the radiator one without needing to lengthen them. Routed the supply line around the side of the radiator and the return underneath the radiator. Then wrapped the line with split loom where it touched the radiator to prevent rubbing the hose. Pretty happy with the outcome of it. Will keep an eye on temps to see what kind of difference it is making (although I only drove it one day with the gauge in place before I put the cooler on).

One thing I found strange was when I checked the fluid level. I spilled a little in the process, plus I needed a little more because of the cooler volume, so I added some. I started the truck, ran in for a few minutes and checked the level. It was 1/3 of the way up the cold range. Thought great, that should be good. Drove to the store and back, temp was between 125-150 according to the gauge. Checked the level again and the hot side looked completely full. So wondering if I added too much fluid now.

Hey Seth,
I was looking at using the same part.
Did you ever get a price from Scott?

I actually got it from my local dealership. Their parts site had it for $56.70, which was $61.38 with tax. Always nice to save on shipping, as they are only 5 mins away from the house.

Here are installed pics of it. During tear down, backside with gauge mounted (had to trim a little plastic to make it fit), and installed.

Nice! Looks very good. I don't have any plans for lots of switches so this will be the direction I take.
So part number in your 1st post is the correct one to buy?

Is your gauge red or amber?

I think that part number in the first post is a Courtesy specific number. I did the drill down in the parts catalog for my local dealer to find it. When I get home, I will check and see if I have the receipt still, so I can verify the part number on it.

EDIT: Oh, and the color of the gauge is red.

I'm not finding a lot of info on this topic...
I am looking at this eTrailer Filter and it has a nice spot for a trans temp sensor, but this puts it after the radiator, so will not really tell the trans temps, just to what temp the rad is cooling it to, so what is the point of this?
Anyone put this filter kit on the sending line?
My main objective is monitoring the temp, but gaining a filter is a bonus.
What is a better way to plug in a sensor?

There was a pic of somebody with the filter assembly mounted just behind the grill (easier to change but you'd lose accuracy if you use the temp gauge) on a Frontier. You really couldn't see it either.

Haha, that was some poor sap to put his temp gauge behind the radiator.
No, he put the filter assembly there. Couldn't tell by the pic if he used a guage too.

The transmission has a factory test port on the right side up by the cooler lines. Several OPs including myself have mounted an AutoMeter temp sender in there and then run the gauge. The one to the left is engine coolant temp.

Butternam, your pic from 8 days ago is this brazed addition you did, and painted? (your old paint coast-line residue looks like it matches the fresh painted one)
Other guys said there is a test port that can be used, so why go to the trouble of adding another one?
Its dark, so tomorrow I can go inspect mine

That is correct. It got late on me the night that I did it and I got lazy near the end.
The "want" to feather edge and make it look perfect dissipated with each passing minute after sundown.
As far as to why I chose to not use an existing port...the short answer is because that's too easy.
But all joking aside. I personally feel that the sensor in the pan would give a more accurate reading than would a sensor into a Test Port. I have nothing to offer to substantiate that claim. It's just my personal opinion.
Another thing is that my truck is a 1st Gen.
I searched high and low for info but didn't come across one single person that installed a temp sensor into the "Test Port for D,2 & 1 positions" on a 1st Gen.
But I did come across several 2nd Gens that had temp sensors installed into the "Line Pressure Test Port."

I'm going to paraphrase here but like @smj999smj told me when I was picking his brain on best location for trans temp sensor "it's better than not having a temp sensor at all."
