I bought a map light and bracket from a 2000 Xterra off of eBay and added it to my 4 banger a couple of nights ago. I even wired them to the door switch so that they come on when you open a door. I used two diodes to isolate each lamp in the map light from the ground signal from the door pin switches so that the rear light won't come on every time I turn on a map light. It's a very nice upgrade and I can see a lot better getting into the truck.

Alright... finally got around to pulling some pics off of my camera. Sorry that I didn't take any during the install, but the only other thing to see is the wires I ran back to the other light.

A closeup of the back of the map light. The red arrows point to where I tacked on the diodes. They're on the ground side of the map light and run to the existing light where it's fed ground by the door pin switches. The diodes are necessary to keep back light from coming on (back feeding ground) when the map light switches are turned on.

The hole I carefully cut in the headliner. The connector with the pink dot came from my junk box and is for the door switch circuit. I think the connector came from the backup lights that were in a Q45 trunk lid finisher that I tossed.

Installed with lights off.

Installed with lights on and door open.

looks good! I did the same thing in my frontier but I got the light and bracket out of a junk yard 94 pathfinder it bolted right up. Although the light looks a bit different, it just has a little lip for the mirror .

Heath:

I also bought a map light off of a 99 Maxima on Ebay. It works fine as a map light but can not figure out how to wire it so the maps come on with the dome when the door is opened.

The dome has 3 wires feeding into it whereas the maxima map light only has 2 wires.

Can you help explain what I need to do so the maps come on when the door is opened?

My map light came the same way. I tacked an extra ground wire on to the map light, and ran it back to the door switch feed from the dome light. I used the diode to isolate that ground from the other one, so that the dome light won't come on when I turn the map lights on with the switch.
