I read that some of our trucks didn't have cabin filters and some did. I was trying to access it but I couldn't see anything behind the glovebox. The glove box only tilts forward slightly even with the rubber out of the way.

you have to remove the glove box to access them.

The full step by step process is shown in your owner's manual on pages 8-23 and 8-24. If you can't find the copy that came with your truck, the owner's manuals are available for free download at Nissan Publications

Thanks. Question: It doesn't say exactly how to remove the glovebox so I'm thinking the glovebox some how just pops out when you remove the rubber pins?

Pinch both sides of the opened glove box and pull downward. The single 'pegs' on both sides must clear the edge and then the glove box will drop down, allowing you to see the cabin filter access door held closed by a small screw. Remove the screw and remove the filters one at a time. You can buy replacement filters at most auto parts stores.

If your truck didn't come with filters, can you simply buy them and slip them in, or does that mean there is no provision for them??

I have a 2012 and there were no filters installed. I ended up getting some in but it was a frustrating project. First, there was no screw holding the little door closed that holds the filters in. My manual said to push a tab to release the door but it broke off when I tried. I ended up putting a little block of wood in to serve as a "nut" and screwed in a sheet metal screw. Not very elegant but it is totally safe and functional. I used Wix filters and the arrows didn't jive with the manual instructions. I eventually determined that the arrow was the direction of air flow, which I always thought it to be, but it wasn't labeled as so like every other filter I've seen is. I ended up putting a piece of paper in the filter slot and turned on the blower to determine the direction of airflow, which is down. I just couldn't tell how the blower was mounted or whether it pulled or pushed air. This cabin filter is the only thing I have ever found that I don't like about the truck.

Well, shouldn't be surprised, but owner's manual pages 8-23 through 8-24 do NOT apply to MY 2004 Frontier King Cab. My glove box does not have removable pivot pins as stated on p. 8-23 diagram WD10315, my entire glove box assembly comes off as a unit with 6 Phillips head screws. There also is NO clip securing the filter as shown in diagram WD10317 on p. 8-24, just a plastic strip with an arrow pointing up.

After removing that, there was a rectangular opening but no cabin filter, just empty space. Inside that opening, the evaporator fins looked super clean. I did buy https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...2004/nissan/frontier?q=Cabin+Air+Filter&pos=0 So on mine a cabin filter could be installed with zero cutting.

On my 2003 Frontier, it didn't come with cabin filters but they can be added by cutting out the slot and installing them. The metal clip is supposed to come with the new filters, but doesn't always. A small, plastic, tie strap can be used in its place.
