this is kind of hard to explain, but if you have a '00 frontier you might know what I'm talking about. Here goes. On the upper half of my tailgate, stretching all the way across is a piece of black plastic that has the 'Nissan' and the 'Frontier' logos on each side. This plastic is glued to a piece of metal, which is then somehow affixed to the tailgate. My problem is that the plastic and the piece of metal have begun to come apart, rain has gotten in, and its starting to look kind of nasty. What I want to do is remove the whole thing, right down to the tailgate, but it seems to be glued very well. I was wondering if anybody has attempted to do this, how you did it, and what the results were. I really like the look of no logo on the back of my truck, but I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of nasty adhesive that can't be removed.
Any suggestions?

use a heat gun or hair dryer, and heat it up a lot!! get it hot, and it should peal off easier.

after you get it off, take creamy peanut butter. and rub it all over the stickey s#!t. put it on thick and leave it for a while. it takes it off great. no joke. and after you get it all off and clean, take a pic im curious what it looks like lol.

peanut butter , huh? sounds kind of wierd, but maybe I'll give it a shot. It's 0 degrees here in CO right now so I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit, but I'll post photos when I'm done. Thanks for the tip.

yeah i know its goofy but it works better than goo gone or similar products, the oil or soemthing in the peanut butter just eats that gooey stuff up. also max sure to wax and buff the rear end of your truck when your all done. you dont have too but it would be a very good idea.

the pics

It took me about three hours, but I finally got it off!!! The adhesive that was in between the tailgate and the piece of metal was so thick that the peanut butter didn't really do anything. i had to make a trip down to ACE to get some heavy duty adhesove remover. Even then it took 2 hours of scraping and peeling. I didn't think I would get all that off, but I really didn't have a choice after I took everything else off. Thanks for the tip about the heat gun. Bought one for 30 bucks, and I'm sure I'll use it again. peace.

A friend of mine had the same problem a few years ago on the same year truck but his was red. He actaully took it back to the dealer several times for this (he was still under warranty at the time) and they actually gave him a new tailgate, which surprised me. Anyway I know many of the Frontiers with that sticker had problems, in my opinion it looks better without the banners/sticker.

Yea, that spot looks so good, you'll have to wash the rest of the truck now!
