hello. Looking for advice on buying a reman transmission. Anything I should know about pulling the old one? Should I get the CHilton book?

Welcome to the forums.
I never did a tranny in a 4x4, but it can't be much different than a 4x2. Mostly, it's just a matter of pulling it out of there and installing the new one. Now would be the time for a clutch, if you might need one, but other than that it's just a matter of doing it. Get a friend to help, just for the extra hands. A floor jack will come in handy. Check the u joints, also.
