Hi all, I got a question and I am hoping that one of you more expirenced first gen Fontier owners can help.

Ok my friend recely bought a 1999 4x4 extended Frontier now he got it at a deal for $1300.00, and has actually fixed it up nicely. Now when he first bought it he noticed that the drive shaft for the truck comes in 2 parts the front half and the back half which extends to the differential. Now this part has a rubber boot around the shaft and had worn out therefore making the truck vibrate when taking off in first, so he replaced it but the replacement part just took a dive, and the dealer is charging $675 for the part.

Now is there a way that this can be corrected?
Is there a mod as to where a sinlge shaft can be used? modded form another truckmaybe??

Please any info would great to see if he can resolve this, and much appreciated. I had told him about the site and how everyone helps out here but he has no access to a comp at this time, so please let me know and thanks.

Yeah a one piece from a 2001 should work. just make sure it's the same length, extended cab for extended cab etc. The JY should hopefully have one.
Actually, the cab doesnt matter. As long as it is a standard wheelbase 4wd.(not a longbed CC) I think all the Crew Cabs come with a split shaft anyway though....

you can have a one piece driveshaft custom made for around $300. don't bother with nissan for that part.

Thank you all for the info, he apparently went to the scrap yards on the weekends but found none as down here in Florida the yards tend to get all Nissan parts of what ever and ship to South America where they are worth more. I also let him know about getting a 1 piece made so he is looking into that.
but again thank you all as you have been so helpful..
