4WD Not Working!

My guess is one of the auto hubs isn't working. I'll assume you have an open diff in the front (no locker) so if one of the auto hubs isn't engaging all the power will go to that side because it has the least resistance since the CV axle isn't connected to the wheel. Like if you have one tire on ice and one on pavement, the one on ice will spin.

Warn and Mile Marker both make manual hubs. The stock auto hubs are pricey, definitely more expensive than the Mile Markers and probably the Warn ones too. 4x4parts.com carries them both and the swap is pretty easy. I think I have a link to a how to if you end up going that route.

Jack up the truck and test is the best way.

Are you stopping and then putting the truck into 4x4 once. If you are backing up with truck in 4x4 you are dissengaing the auto hubs. Moving forward again you will have to stop and engage the 4x4 hubs again.
The auto hubs wont disengage while the truck is in 4wd no matter which direction you travel. That only happens once the truck is fully out of 4wd.

Also, to my understanding (I may be wrong), if you engage 4wd and travel in reverse initially (in other words the hubs lock when moving in reverse) you must travel forward after 4wd is disengaged to unlock them. The hubs unlock when you move in the opposite direction of which they became locked.

To test it, it would be best to put the truck on a lift because all 4 tires would need to be off the ground. Put it in 4 wheel and in drive, if you have a CV shaft spinning and the respective front tire isn't then chances are it's the hub. Just a thought; I don't know how reliable this would be though. Things may act differently since there isn't the resistance of the tires being on the ground.
