Just a shout out to all you guys that are running 33's or have run them

My plan originally with my next set of tires was to grab a set of 31x12.5 ssr's from interco

But.. curiosity has gotten the better of me and I've read of quite a few guys on here that are cramming 33's into a first gen

was hoping to get some input on the subject as I'm not afraid of trimming but dont want to end up butchering my truck just for the bigger tire

hoping to find out
rim size? dia and width

Rim backspacing? this is the big one I'm running a 4in backspacing right now and love the wider stance of my truck

and if you guys have any tips for getting every bit of clearance out of these trucks i think i remember reading something about camber bolts being set a certain way to gain more clearance..

also if you trimmed could you post pictures of the trimming you had to do?

and lastly if your not running 33's but know someone that is post a name so i can send them a PM or even just ask them to add some input to this thread.
thanks guys

I think you could fit a 33x10.50 on a stock wheel with no lift. A 33x12.50 on a wheel with 4 inches of backspacing and no lift just isn't going to happen. I have a 3 inch suspension lift, 3.75 backspaced wheels, and 32x11.50s. I had to trim the bottom of my front fenders a fair amount and my tires are still really really close.

Trust me haha the truck is not staying stock
it went up about 2 inches today with a tbar crank and some shackles

I dont mind waiting for it to go up further before i buy new tires
I'm just wondering what you guys have done to make them fit

also anyone who is posting that has trimmed could you please get some pictures of it?

a fair amount and a really really close are all general terms but I'm hoping to see EXACTLY (ie picture) the result of what you did to make the 32's or 33's fit

Thanks again

I really would like pictures if you guys can post them

Cutting really doesn't bother me. I just want to see what finished results are when some has already trimmed.

Thanks for the input jaxon do they rub on the cab side of the fender at all? cause the 31s seem pretty close there.

Also am I going crazy or did anyone else read a post about camber bolts being adjusted to gain more clearance. I cant find the thread for the life of me...

That is mainly a 2nd gen thing. If you turn the cam bolts to push the lca forward, it will give you a little more clearance so you can turn lock to lock. I am unsure if 1st gens can do the same thing or not.

so i just did some digging around under my truck during break and found my UCA camber bolts/eccentrics whatever you would want to call them

There is plenty of room for adjustment on both sides to do almost the same thing the second gen guys are doing, only because the eccentrics are on the UCA instead of the LCA doing so may end up giving my truck very close to zero or possibly neg caster.

I'm going to look into doing this a little further and hopefully snag some time on an alingment rack or just borrow the tools we use to setup my buddies late model front end

however i do have another picture request
could you guys take some pictures of your UCA eccentrics so i can see where they are pointing?
or at least describe how they are setup?

Thanks

bump...

Still looking for more input on trimming and the camber bolts

I'm hoping to get enough information complied to do some work on my truck and throw a how to together for the best way to gain extra tire clearance on the first gens. The second gen guys have thier own little write up on this and if we have one maybe it will stop some of the tire clearance questions

Well here are a few with my phone. I still rub when I'm turning and I hit a bump and As you can see I've still got some plastic I need to remove. BTW I don't think the whole camber bolt stuff applies to our first gens.

Besides what i did i don't see any other way to get more clearance other then doing SAS or a custom drop bracket kit
By adjusting the camber bolts on the uca the right way it moves the end of the UCA towards the front of the truck. What I dont know yet is how much this will impact the camber and caster settings and wether or not ill be able to align it to track straight and have the tires wear even.

my stock front bumper is going to be replaced by a shrock or one i make soon so i dont care about hacking it up. What I'm trying to minimize is the trimming/pounding the needs to be done on the firewall side of the fender.

During my lunch I'll grab some pictures of the UCA eccentrics so i can show you guys what i mean by adjusting them

there is one of these eccentric bushings on the front and rear of the upper control arm

if they were adjusted so the rear one faced out, pushing the rear of the UCA out and the front faced in, pulling the front of the UCA in, the ball joint would be moved towards the front of the truck a small amount.

based on the assumption that this wont completely ^%$# the alignment this adjustment could minimize or eliminate trimming and the chance of rub when running larger tires.

thoughts?
oh and i threw in a pic of the truck with tbars cranked and shackles in the rear
