Just went through a fiasco with my starter, had the truck towed to the dealer and they installed a NAPA new (not rebuilt) starter, which I supplied, because after a week of waiting, they "couldn't get" in a timely fashion the OEM one, not to mention I had to pay for a rental.

My question is, how good (or bad) are the NAPA New line of starters? They are made in China which is not reassuring but honestly the OEM one might be too.

Here is a pic of what happened. The lead wire corroded away, so technically I suppose it's repairable but I doubt I will as the NAPA one has a lifetime warranty.

Wow. Funny, I was just thinking about this happening the other day. Ive got a 14 year old truck with a 14 year old starter, that been punished with 14 winters worth of salt. I wonder if I should replace it preemptively, or at least have a new starter on hand.....? After seeing this thread, I am at least going to crawl under there and give it a good inspection. Thanks for sharing!

Good idea. I've done my alternator and battery, this makes sense to replace too before being stranded.

Definitely looks repairable, but with the wear on it probably would not last much longer anyhow. I have usually had much better luck with NAPA parts than O'Reilly or Auto Zone as far as reliability.

Probably nothing to worry about. Nissan mechanic said he'd never seen this on a Frontier, and only once on another Nissan platform.
