Reliability counts - for some folks.
Putting pencil to paper re: fuel economy might matter - when driving a lot of miles/yr. Each individual MPG saved/tank is the cost of one gal of fuel = &/or, it is just being able to drive down the road a bit further before filling up. I totally get being obsessed about fuel economy, but I personally just make it a moot point. Priceless peace of mind can't be bought -> just rethought.

I'm a newbie to Club Frontier and presently own a Maverick after being a Honda owner for the last 24 years.

The Maverick is my first truck/ first Ford. Prior to the Maverick I've purchased an '89 F150 and a 2016 F150 for my husband (traded the '89 for the '16). I didn't/don't drive either truck except on the rare occasion, so I don't look at either of them as mine.

My last Honda, a 2014 Accord LX-MT started leaking oil and having quirky engine issues which came as no surprise to my mechanic. I was pretty much over Honda by then anyway - they're not what they used to be. Time to try something else.

Started discussing a truck purchase with the husband. A four door was needed since his 2016 is a single cab. Did a lot of research on the Maverick and ordered mine on November 2nd, 2021 and received it on April 7th, 2022. Opted for the XL-FWD/EB rather than the hybrid because I didn't want to wait half of forever to receive it. Also looked at the Canyon and the Tacoma, but I'm not a Chevy person and while the Tacoma is a good-looking truck, at 5'6" I could not get comfortable in the driver's seat. My friend has owned a 2019 2.7L and now a 2022 V6. She's shorter than me and I have no idea how she sees over the hood. Every time I've driven her trucks I feel like I'm laying down in the driver's seat with my feet splayed out in front of me like I'm riding a gaited horse. (Can anyone relate to this?)

I'm about 23,700 miles into Maverick ownership at this point and the only issues I've had have been quirky radio issues. I use it as my commuter for work (40 miles a day) and so far the gas mileage has been great at 27-28city and 30-33 highway. I usually keep my vehicles for 6-8 years or longer before trading them in. At this point I'm thinking about holding onto my Maverick and saving money toward the purchase of a Frontier in the next few years.

What brings me to the Nissan forum is a long-standing interest in Nissan trucks. While the Maverick has treated me well so far, I under-estimated my needs for the truck and should have purchased the AWD/4K tow package. I purchased a 6x10 cargo trailer and converted it to a camper, and while my truck can easily pull 2000lbs (trailer weighs 1100lbs dry, and probably 1600lbs completed) I'm not sure I want to use the Maverick long term for hauling this thing on road trips.

Love the looks of the 2022+ Frontiers and would like to learn from old and new owners about what makes these trucks awesome and what should I look out for that could be problematic. For sake of argument I'm considering the S model as a 4x4 and the SV as a fully loaded 4x2, and would like to give continued ownership input as a Maverick driver and the pros/cons herein.

^^ This. Just say NO to Ford, especially the truck wanna-be's. The Nissan'll still be on the road when that Maverick's being recycled into washing machines and refrigerators.
I'm laughing at this...despite being a Maverick owner. I broke my own rule of "never buy a first-year vehicle." Waiting to see what long-haul ownership will be like.

I'm waiting too, and I hope for the sake of your wallet that I'm wrong, I have my big-boy pants on so I can admit being rrrrrrrrrr .......... errrrrrrr :ROFLMAO::LOL::LOL::ROFLMAO: mistaken from time to time. LOL. If you're old enough to catch that 1970s TV reference, then you are probably in Boomerville right here with me. ROFL.
Nah, seriously dude, I hope it treats you right. Just have seen too many friends ( and my brother ) trying to wrestle down Ford issues to want to try it as well. Hopefully, their quality has improved. Time will indeed tell.

My husband loves his 2016 F150 and has had zero issues. I can only hope to be as lucky.

I'm not quite a Boomer. Generation X. Someone else mentioned exploding Pintos in this discussion. I remember that well! I'm also old enough to remember when the switch was made from Datsun to Nissan.

I think they should have held on to Datsun . Maybe resurrect it as a companion label, for the electric line or a line of entry-level more cost-effective vehicles, like Scion was, perhaps.
You know the best way to kill yourself? Drive a 1971 Pinto hatchback with Firestone 721 radials off a cliff. Backwards.:cool::cool::LOL:

Why go through all that trouble? I can drive it on I-4 in Orlando. Only a matter of time...:ROFLMAO:

There's a true statement. Or the I495 Capitol Beltway in MD / VA.

I also had a Maverick on order and was lucky enough to cancel and get my money back.

Honestly one of my better decisions in life. I have a 22 Frontier S 4X4 now.

If you plan to keep the truck more than a handful of years I would get the Frontier. While not perfect, the quality is much better from what I keep reading over at Mavericktruckclub.

I am still very interested in the hybrid, but really question the quality of the Maverick.

Does not hurt to shop around and see what a dealer would do on a trade in for the Maverick. I do see prices coming down a little on the Frontiers.

Wish you the best and keep us updated!

I'm curious to hear all about your Frontier S 4x4. I prefer the lower trim models (less crap to break!) but would like to get the 4x4 as well, even though I really don't need it. Planning on using the Frontier as my future road trip vehicle and want the 4x4 just in case I find myself in a sticky situation.

I'm living this right now. I've had lots of mini trucks going back to my 1972 Chevy LUV (actually a rebadged Isuzu). Have a 2018 F-150 I share with the wife for our bigger towing hauling chores. Been wanting another small truck for the lesser chores and general run around. I have a 2000 lb small toy hauler and big utility trailer. Was really waiting for the 6th gen Ranger but was taking forever and went Maverick instead as a place holder. I got 2022 XL with 2.0 and AWD + 4k tow package, but still wanted the smaller SCab and 6' bed to be really satisfied. Was informed about Nissan Cab and slowly researched and considered it a possible alternative to a Ranger upgrade. The Maverick has been trouble free and fun to drive with great MPG.. but... still lacking what I wanted in a mid-size. Test drove a 2024 King Cab SV last Saturday and it all clicked and felt right. I'm putting a deposit on another 24 King Cab in transit this Saturday. Went back and forth on lower trims, 4x4 or 4x2, etc. over time and decided the 4x2 meets all my needs for daily driver and SV convenience group option gives me all the goodies I would later add anyway like bed liner, tow package, etc.- in fact WAY more tech than I wanted, but you have to take what you can get with these since you can't custom order them. A word of warning- they keep raising the destination price every few months + addding extra features at the factory you can't refuse so it has cost me several thousand $ by hesitating...

We Gen-X'ers are always overlooked. That's fine, we just sit back and laugh at the Boomers and Millennials.

My Dad sold a 67 Galaxie to buy a 74 Pinto just before I was born. I asked him why he hated me so much before I was born...

I really like my S model a lot, the only complaint I have is lack of power mirrors, which is very minor.

I paid around $36K for my 4X4 S that came with technology and graphics package which were each about $1000.

I really like that I have just enough technology, but not over the top. I am a fan of the manual seats. I have had the truck now about a year and a half and it seems to hold up very well. I don't have any abnormal noises or pops, bangs, or creeks.

I have had zero issues with mine and could not be happier.

Wife has SV same year and loves it, hers is the base with zero add ons or mark ups, we paid $32-33 for hers.

I do like the power mirrors and thicker seat material hers has, but that is it from S to SV.

I opted for the CoPilot 360 in my Maverick, which I think included the power mirrors. In this day and age it should be a given, but I DO like my rides simple. Not having power mirrors isn't a big deal. I don't have cruise control either. Don't miss it.

Here's a few pictures of Marty the Maverick for you. It's a base XL FWD 2.0L EB with no factory options. Basically a fleet truck. Because of all the crazy constraints when I ordered, I left all the options off to get it built as fast as it could be. That being said, I waited 9 months. Some people waited 2 years. Yeah.
Have added Smartliner all-weather mats at $50, Tiptop roll-up tonneau cover for $185, and a set of Bronco Sport rims that came with the stock Continentals with less than 2,000 miles for $400 on FB Marketplace.
Including tax and tags and the aftermarket accessories, I'm at $21,205. I've paid down about 1/3 of the loan since last October when I got it. I haven't had to deal with any of the quality issues or recalls that hybrid owners have so I'm thankful to have the truck at the price I do.
I kept the stock steelies and the set of tires as I'm a little torn between the two looks and the tires had less than 7,000 miles on them. May still put the steelies back on and sell the Bronco Sport rims down the line. The stock Contis are by all accounts good for maybe 25-30k miles at best and aren't known for their quality, but as expensive as tires are I'll run what I have before I upgrade to something a little beefier.
Have included this chart below from KBB for those asking about the height/dimensions etc. As you can see the Maverick matches up fairly well dimension wise aside from the overall length and bed length, and the cab space is actually a little roomier. Of course that Frontier powertrain is superior in every way aside from MPG.

For what it's worth, I agree with what other folks have said on this post 100%...this truck is a good buy in the $20k-$25k price point depending on your trim and options...anything beyond that and you're paying too much for too little truck. My base model is still retailing on Carvana and at Carmax for close to $30k. They are still offering $27-$28k to buy mine. That's not a good buy for an Escape/Bronco Sport with a truckbed.
Alright, this isn't a Maverick forum, so I'll put up the pictures and move on. Take care and enjoy your truck!
Thanks for the great specs. Just curious, for the rear legroom, what exactly does this mean? 26.2 (33.2) inches
