I have a 2014 and want to change the headunit. To remove the factory radio does the radio only come out attached to that whole center dash piece with the ac controls?

If you search youtube for something like "Frontier center console removal" or "Frontier head unit replacement" there are several videos there that will show you how it's done.

The top tray pops out, then you remove 3 screws, then the entire center console pops out. The HU is attached to the console by brackets on each side.

There is an extensive thread here titled something like "2014 head unit replacement, keep all oem functions" that is an excellent reference.

My 2013 has a standard double din radio. As above check out some youtube vids but for my unit one (1) screw holds the dash in and the radio is bolted to the fire wall so...

Pry the top tray off. Take the one screw out.

Go to the bottom corners about an inch up each side and pry the center console away from the bottom a bit. Then up to the top, the catches are to the left and right if memory serves. Grab the top tray hole and pry each side at the top near the windscreen.

Pull the console forward and you will see 4 screws holding the radio to the firewall.

Use the same mounting brackets on your new head unit and bang! You're done.

See link in my sig for my unit.

Now i'm assuming you have a double din unit in your 2014.

I'm going to update my unit to Android 5.x which requires I pull the unit. Maybe in the next day or so. I'll try to take some pics for you.

If you can't wait have at her. Easy job on the double din units.

I used the Metra Kit you mentioned. The Metra "frame" sits about 1/4 inch below the level of the thin side panels of the OEM console. It's been awhile so memory has faded, but my recollection was that the Metra frame did not physically fit into the OEM opening so it could not be pushed forward any further to sit flush with the oem console.

Of course at first I was disappointed with it not being completely flush, but I've decided that it is really not a big or noticeable issue and don't plan to address it further. Maybe there is a better fitting kit out there someone can post up.

Does the 2014 have a double Din radio now?

Then if you buy a double din head unit there is no need for a dash kit.

It just fits.

Follow the link in my sig. Go to joyings site and from there you can see what a standard double din unit looks like.

Two things I'm not sure of.

1. what head unit you are getting and what size it is
2. If the 2014 dash has a standard double din radio like my 2013 does.

Edit: Just noticed Rick has a 2014... ignore me then
