Just posting this so I keep track of everything I do to this truck. Don't expect this to be a fast build...

Truck started off as a 2011 Frontier. Here is what it has off the top of my head.

Full cage and suspension done by Hinson Fabrication
King Shocks
18" of travel front and rear
Mastercraft Racing seats
CAI and Tune
Titan Rear end with 4.11 gears
Titan Hood and Bedsides - Fiberwerx
Still has stock V6 motor - 56,000 miles
35" tires - fake bead locks

I will update as I remember.

What this build will entail.

Prep and paint exterior cage
Quick-glo interior cage
Paint all Aftermarket body panels to match
Pre-Runner front bumper W/ Lights built in
30 gallon fuel cell

If anyone has recommendations I am open to suggestions. If you want specific pictures just ask.

Alight, got some work done.

First was Rust removal - I used OSPHO and microfiber rags. This stuff is amazing. It also provides a protective coating to prevent future rust. Before and after OSPHO pics. This took maybe an hour to do.

Roll Cage Primer and Painted. Fiberglass body panels all painted.

I used Rustoleum Gloss silver for the cage and Duplicolor Gloss Black for the body panels. It looks all right for now. This truck is going to have a rough life. No need to get all fancy with paint.

Things left to do -

Finish updating headlights - They have Titan headlights but Frontier plugs... They do not fit. If anyone has the harness I would be more than happy to buy it. I can splice it in no problem.
Secure battery - the butthole I got it from decided it is ok for the battery to just sit in the location
Light bars - ordered just waiting for them to come in. Rough Country Cree Black Series
Fuel Cell - still have to research more into making this happen
Re-build wire harness from the frame back - going to run all the wires in 1/2" EMT to make everything look clean - keep the tubing look going
Build Pre-Runner front bumper - have materials, just need my welder buddy to have some free time
Stereo - Going to do something mild like 2 15's on 2K watts. and a couple roll bar mounted 6.5's - have the equipment sitting around just need to build and mount a box.
Aftermarket steering wheel - I'm a big dude and would like a removable wheel. Any help on this is appreciated

Engine/drivetrain Swap. This is probably a couple years out. Probably do a coyote or 6.2 supercharged when its all said and done. Unfortunately thats 20K minimum. So hold your horses.

Let me know if you have any ideas on how to do this better. It is amazing how much a little paint can transform a truck.

She will be in the Texas Desert Racing events for sure.
Looked over the “Texas Desert Racing” rules.
Kind of vague.
Roll cage( must meet sanctioning rules)
Helmets ( no motorcycle helmets)
Fire suits.
Is there another place where they explain more in detail ?
Just curious.

No, I just like the rules clearly defined.
I would hate to enter another organization’s race and not meet the requirements.
SCORE,BITD,NORRA, etc. rules are pretty much the same.
Cage tube diameter for vehicles over 4,000 lb.
(My Frontier) must be 2” diameter. Chromoly or DOM.,120 Wall.
No single layer , two piece fire suits are not allowed.
They even tell you how your window nets must be attached.
I don’t know if the OP is interested in racing other organization’s races. If he does it would be nice to meet those rules also.

Just checked entry fee for NORRA. 5 drivers, 5 non competitor support. $5452.
Hate to enter and fail tech.

Nice Truck! Mine being my daily driver, I would never take this route, but it looks damn sharp.

Just curious, what's the difference between the helmets you guys use and a motorcycle helmet? I would have thought that a DOT and SNELL approved motorcycle helmet would be as good as it gets.

“Snell“SA”(sports application)rated professional helmets are designed for auto racing an offer extreme impact resistance and higher fire protection”.
“M”(motorcycle) offer less protection.

Interested in the rust removal paint prep you used. After applications do you jsut go ahead and apply paint? Or are there steps in between.
Not much to it. Wire brush, scrape, or sandblast the heavy rust. Then apply the Ospho with a Scotchbrite pad. Take a clean rag and wipe off any excess Ospho and let set for 24 hours.

What does the landing feel like from a jump that high? I've spent a lot of time at race tracks as driver and passenger, but never jumped before.

Freakishly smooth. Couldn't be happier with it. It handles very rough terrain at high speeds 70-80 like a champ. It does better off road than on road.
