Seems like my long bed se won't be made anymore with a manual trans so it's now worth more. Even more so as it has a sunroof from the factory.

Yeah your right. Also it seems Nissan has made it where all of its models follow the same trim levels. They got rid of the XE,SE, and LE to be more in line with the car and crossover trim levels:S, SV and SL.

A V8 would be a welcomed option...

I bet fuel economy would stay about the same too...
It wouldn't cost them anything to offer it and they might even gain more buyers by doing it.

I’ve been waiting for Nissan to make a blue SV (SE) in the line, and now they have, but at the same time they drop the 6MT out of the Long Bed SV (SE). I never could understand the boring color lineup for the SE Frontier, as the Titan lineup always seemed to have a better selection on all model lines. After all these, years the Pro-4X (Nismo) Crew Cab finally gets the 6MT, some would say six years too late, another mystery why this wasn’t offered in 2005.

I'd trade mine in for it in a heartbeat as long as it sounded like a "real" V8 - and not some whiny rice-burning V8. I've been debating on swapping it for a F150 or a Silverado...but I don't like the idea of having ot pay TT&L all over again, not to mention what I owe over the value of the Frontier...lol

if by "real" sound, you mean clatter of an OHV, your only choices are hemi dodge trucks and chevy full size, everything else is SOHC or DOHC. if by "real" v8 sound you meant the actual sound coming out the pipes, the titan v8 (which is what we are talking about here, the vk56) is 5.6 liters and therefore right in the middle of the full size v8's displacement range meaning it's right in the middle of the sound coming out the back... in other words, i'm not exactly sure what you are talking about or why you think that a v8 in a frontier wouldn't sound like a v8...:wtf:

No, you're not not.

I've been wanting a waiting for anyone to offer a mid-size diesel truck for years but we'll likely never get them. I've been holding out to see how the Mahindra truck supposed to come here was.....but I gave up after reading they haven't even applied for emissions compliance with the EPA yet and release date keeps being pushed out.....and now they're being sued by their distributor for not following through with anything. I'm tired of waiting and got my gasser fronty. Best choice for me given what we have available to us IMO, but I'd love to see a powerful & efficient diesel. So would many others.

Ford was gonna offer a diesel in the F-150 about a decade ago but they killed it due to not being able to meet emissions.

Honda was gonna offer a diesel in their cars starting in 2009 but it's been killed.

Subaru was gonna offer their boxer diesel in North America starting in 2010 but now they're not sure when or if they will.

Dodge/Cummins is kicking around offering a 5.0 V8 diesel in the 1500 trucks....but it's a few years out if it happens at all.

GM has been toying around with a smaller version of the duramax for their 1/2 tons as well...haven't heard much about it lately (although I haven't really been paying much attention either).

Maybe if my 4.0 craps out someday I can swap in a 4BT or something...that'd be fun.

LOL, the "diesel" talk again.

We would all like to see a diesel in the Frontier. Heck, it would probably take a lot of the market share since it would be awesome offroad and for towing so DIY guys would love it.

The thing that keeps killing it is the emissions.

What kills me is that our only option currently is the cummins in the RAM but for me, that is extreme over kill not to mention very costly. I think this holds true for a lot of people.

That was the case with me as well.
I was all set to shell to get a dodge/cummins next year but had a change of heart the more I thought about it. Like you, it would be costly & over-killer for me too.

Hey there Diesel997s,

How do you like that TDi motor?

See, I've heard that those little turbo diesels are bad a$$. That only gets me wondering what a larger one would do.

I ride in those million dollar Prevost tour busses all the time. They have HUGE turbo charged diesel engines. For as big as they are, those things can get down the road pretty darn well!!

If they would make it perform like I KNOW they can (if they put their little brains into it), I'd be WAY in for a Frontier with a diesel!!!

I love the TDi engine.
I've had a VW TDi in the drive since 1997 and been hooked on diesel ever since. I was the first person on what now is 'the' TDi forum to chip and add power enhancements to their car back when there was only one chip supplier in the US and everyone thought taking a 90hp diesel to 115 hp would kill it and ruin the mileage....that was a long time ago.

With a chip & nozzle upgrade I can get 150hp & 270tq. then add hybrid turbos, intercoolers, injectors etc, etc and it just goes up from there.

Here is the power enhancement section of TDi meca TDI Power Enhancements - TDIClub Forums

nissan seems very picky about what transmission options go in what trim and model truck. good to see a 6 speed in the pro4x cc sb though. what also catches my attention that there seems to be no mid level model for the xterra, its either the S or pro4x.
