2010 EVAP work at 2700 miles!

Just bought my 2010 Frontier SE Crew Cab and at 2700 miles had the SES light come on. Dealer performed smoke test, and determined that the vent control valve was sticking open, throwing the code. The fix was a software upgrade to the ECM which I thought was odd, but they said that the valve wasn't getting a signal to close, causing the excess vacuum. They also replaced the front end lower control arms that were recalled. Anyway problem fixed, but have any of you heard of a software fix for a problem like this?
