I think it's a conservative estimate becase I've had a lot more weight on there than that. But several people have bent/broken hinges.

When mine break I'm making my own and they will NOT break again.

Yeah that's a little strange, for a truck that is otherwise built like a Russian tank.

I have to remind myself that the tailgate is not like an F-150's.

Then again, the Frontier has more HP and gets 7-8 better mpg
and looks a hell of a lot better than the Ford.

The guy asked a question, a legitimate question that is good conversation so why dont you get a life and worry about foul language rather then your own interest in some ones post.

Ban search Nazi's!

200lb is a safe number it can defiantly hold alot more but idk about you i would not want to be standing on the edge of the tailgate when it gives out!!!

dude, this IS a legitimate question... the problem is this has been asked several times before and fully fleshed out elsewhere, why not just read that thread instead of making a new one? we (the OG's) get tired of answering the same :damn: questions all the time only to see someone post the exact same question a week later... that gets old quick

....................................

please try searching before you make another useless thread. your count is now at 3.
Didn't realize this forum was so big that it is in it's twilight years. So what is something that hasn't been posted before that won't upset somebody?

Sorry, I guess I just don't understand what this place is about.

use the search feature before posting, helps a lot with the bazillion threads there are. unless you're trying something new, it's been talked about and beaten to death here.

i dont mean to be disrespectful in anyway and i love this forum and all the people on here.
but every thread i have seen you make has nothing in it but random nonsense. most of it could have been posting in roastbeefs thread.

a simple search would have revealed that the tailgate is rated at 200 pounds, but 99% of the members on here have had well over 200lbs rest on the tailgate with no issues what so ever. that includes this guy, with a 4 wheeler and a mass amount of different motorcycles.

once again im sorry for being an *** and calling you out but if you look through the three threads you have made not a single one has anything to do with anything or anything that hasnt been covered like a 19 year old girls face on prom night.

I have tried to use the search fesature on here several times and most of the time I do not come up with the thread I am looking for. If you don't use the correct words (and they are not always what would seem obvious) you will not find the thread. If the words in the thread are not spelled correctly you will not find it.

Besides as you get older you won't remember everything you read and a refresher course comes in handy for those of us who are so memory challenged. Life would be so much easier if there weren't so many opinionated people to deal with.

Let the flames fly.

i'm not intending to speak for the membership, so keep in mind this is only my personal observation. in your case, i don't think it's so much that the topic had been posted before as much as it was that you did not offer any new information or perspective on the topic. apparently, and i didn't see your other threads, you had done the same thing in other instances. now, if you had decided to approach the topic by load testing your tailgate to failure and sharing the results and parameters, i think you would have received a very different reaction.

my feeling is that this forum is like others in that you will get back what you put in and more. starting off with several not so thought provoking comments is probably not the best way to go though. the membership here is smaller and things are noticed for good and bad. for anyone that has put a lot of time and effort into posting or contributing to parts of a forum there is always the tendency to want to guard against it degenerating into gibberish - as so many other once strong forums have. you could take that as a positive that people here still care enough about the place to be concerned.

it's also true that the search function here is very useful. it's a pretty specialized forum covering a narrow period of time. the number of possible topics is simply not that large. chances are it has been addressed at some point and it's likely the information is still relevant. there is a lot of good information and really is an advantage to check the archives.

I am amazed at how quickly this thread became ANOTHER thread dominated by responses concerning the search feature.

Look at it this way, when you join in a game, don't you want to know the score? Are you going to ask someone in the game or are you going to do a search? Maybe the info in an old thread is inaccurate and OLD. From the point of view of the guy joining the game, it's a lot easier to just ask rather than do a search. To begin with, you flush out the friendly and the unfriendly members, and on top of that everyone that complains about the waste of space a new thread is causing is forgetting that every post they add suggesting to do a search is wasting even MORE space.

I'm sure the limit nissan put on the tailgate is for legal and safety reasons. They aren't going to say it can hold 20 tons, get someone killed in the process, and have to deal with the lawsuits.

...this^^ is exactly what we're talking about. coming onto a forum and posting stuff off the cuff with little or no information as to exactly what you are asking or what your problem is really gets on some people's nerves, mine included. there's a reason i don't spend a lot of time on this forum anymore, usually there isn't much new going on. it's typically the same ol' questions asked by different faces answered by somewhat older members over and over again. yes this happens on a lot of forums but that doesn't mean it should. genocide happens every day in african countries... doesn't mean it's right (though obviously that's a lot more serious than some 1's and 0's on a random server, by far). i'm all for people joining this site and learning bout their trucks. i did the same thing back in 06 when i bought mine, but be reasonable about posts and if you have a legitimate issue or problem, ask a legit question not some random stir-the-pot post that does nothing but clog up the rest of an otherwise good forum

Ill give everybody one thing. The search feature really sucks sometimes. But that's why I always use the advanced search to narrow things down.

As for the tailgate. I rest a 450lb or so stand up jet ski on the tailgate all the time when loading it in and out.

Well said, and I agree with your rationale, HKY and Weps.

In hindsight, if I were going to start a thread concerning the 200 lb weight limit, I would ask everyone to post pictures of objects weighing more than 200 lbs on the tailgate - humorous or not. Perhaps 200 lbs of Twinkies or 200 lbs of bull$hit to officially call BS.

That would be a great thread.
