So I have a 2008 Frontier CC (Nismo). If anybody knows me they saw my last setup in my 02 Frontier Crew Cab with custom built box behind rear seat... well after driving home today I think it might be time to throw a simple system in my truck.

I already have a Pioneer AVIC-Z3 gps receiver. I was contemplating just upgrading the speakers from factory (big improvement im sure) and thats only a $280 price tag (components in front).... but maybe a sub and amp setup.

Now Im familiar with car stereo. Worked in the industry for years, but have no interest in it anymore. I wanted a simple setup so figured on the following:

Polk Audio db5251 (Polk Audio db5251 5-1/4" component speaker system at Crutchfield.com)

Polk Audio db651 (Polk Audio db651 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers — for 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com)

Boston GT-5750 (Boston GT-5750 5-channel car amplifier — 70 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms plus 375 watts x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield Signature)

JL Audio Stealthbox (JL Audio Stealthbox® Custom-fit fiberglass enclosure with 10" W1v2 subwoofer Fits 2005-up Nissan Frontier CrewCab at Crutchfield Signature)

So im at like $1200 and change minus wiring (which won't cost me much I have tons left over from previous installs).

Soooo seems like a nice little setup... but i wanna stay real simple here... so questions for folks

1) For those who use components... what did you do? Did you use the factory tweeter locations if so, how?

2) Anybody have experience with the JL stealthbox and have photos of it installed

3) Anybody have photos of their amp installed? Under passenger seat is logical, but i have a police scanner mounted there and thats best place for that. So i figured maybe behind the drivers side rear seat, on the cabin wall? I keep a flashlight and some misc tools there (along with my camera tripod on the other side) but figured maybe the amp will fit there, seems like a good amount of space?

Let me know... im really interested in trucks with my styling... earlier trucks, i dont need to see about, and newer trucks, how different are they? Really Trucks between 2005-2008 crew cabs id like to see..

Thanks.

why do you want 5.25 comps? i would switch them out with 6.5's up front and a matching set of coaxes in the back. also, with that amp you will be underpowering the sub by 50wRMS. also you will be underpowering those comps by 30w and over powering the coaxes by 10w.

I didnt wanna spend a lot :) I dont plan on playing it as loud as can be... I changed the specs to get a different amp that would have the power for the sub and would match the speakers a bit more... i didnt spec out components (do i really even need components? seems like a waste of a cavity for my tweeters in my truck since they wouldnt be hooked up when i swap these out)

if your not trying to blow out the windows or making the neighbors pissed at you then drop the specs a little.

2 sets of Polk Audio db651s 6-1/2" 2-way shallow-mount car speakers at Crutchfield.com
with this amp: JL Audio J2 320.4 4-channel car amplifier — 60 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com
and this amp for the sub: JL Audio J2 500.1 Mono subwoofer amplifier — 500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

also, my way is cheaper. LOL. OH, and can be even cheaper if you buy everything from somewhere other than crutchfield.

I don't want two amplifiers. Im trying to stay as simple as I can... and id rather not have to install a new battery terminal to use with two feeds (i dont split my amp feeds, if i have 5 amps, i run 5 seperate power runs, etc...) i also didnt want to put two amps in because it eats up valueable real estate in my truck, i actually use my truck to store various things (behind my back seat are a few tools i use everyday, flashlight and most important, my camera tripod)

rog: good thinking on the tweeters, lil metal bracket, thats easy enough to fab up... i dont need components in my rear doors, i dont carry passengers that often back there, and when i do, they can do without highs, lol

The alpine speakers i was figuring on getting got pretty good reviews... not sure if i should go with a component system or not... little easier to install non-components, i mean hell my last truck still had the factory speakers up front (i never actually installed them, when i sold the truck i gave the guy the speakers)... if i do the install i'll be running new speaker wire to each door.

Component speakers will blow away co-ax speakers any day of the week.
The factory wiring should be good for up to 100 watts a channel or so no problems.
I'm running 75 watts a channel on factory wires for over two years now without issues.

I'm a Polk fanatic, been buying Polk speakers for over 25 years now and have never been let down.
Polk in my main theater room all around, Polk in the truck all around.
In my opinion Polk can't be matched for the price.
You definitely won't be disappointed with Polk speakers.

I love polk for home audio, for my cars ive used a lot... my isuzu had sony xplod speakers, my 2002 frontier had kicker equipment... this truck im happy with anything decent.

well id need to extent my speaker wires from the gps receiver to the back where sub goes... and i have factory components so i dont wanna use their wires as it goes to their crossover... so id rather just run new wires, i already have the wire anyway.

maybe i'll put components in the front, i'll just mod my front tweeter a lil (i wanna stay close to factory so i can pull the equipment when i sell the truck)

now my only choice is do i save $400 by buying the gear from a place like sonicelectronix.com who isnt an alpine authorized dealer so no warranty after 30 days (or i can spend the $40 or so per item and get a 3 year warranty through squaretrade) or just get all the equipment from crutchfield and get whatever wiring i need from sonicelectronix.com

Just noticed MTX has something also:

MTX ThunderForm Unloaded Enclosure Holds a single 10" sub — fits 2005-up Nissan Frontier Crew Cab at Crutchfield.com

Its $269.99 and goes under the rear passenger side seat instead, which is a bigger space (and one i dont use that often, i use my drivers side storage bin more)

Thoughts?
I have that sub and box setup in my truck. I'm really pleased with how it sounds. It was really easy to install and it looks like a factory piece. See my pictures here:

also, sonic electronix... should i get it from them even though no warranty? i think my amex may cover me for 1 year anyway

Is that your set up?

How much better over factory will it sound with the 6.5 polks in the front and rear with that amp?
