I have an auto, i bypassed the radiator by switching a transmission line. Then i added an auxilary trans cooler for about 60 bucks. Info can be found all over this forum as well as thenewx.com.

Another common problem is the timing chain. The tensioners and guides use plastic shoes that become worn over time. The engine creates a noticable whine noise when this occurs.

Look on youtube for an xterra bypass how to and look online for timing chain noise.

Otherwise these trucks are very dependable. Basic maintenance should keep it runnin well. Good luck!

coolant system contamination a problem with age? or is it something i should look into addressing now? 2012 with 43k v6 auto

General consensus on the forums is that this problem was fixed after 2010. But a 60 dollar part and switching two hoses is worthy of avoiding a potential 5500 dollar repair in my perspective.
