I received a 2007 Frontier with 150,000 miles on it for "free"...It was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up...LOL...Now I am looking for a 4.0L for it. The previous owner ran it out of oil and probably changed the oil 3-4 times..Removing the valve covers confirmed this immediately.:surprise: For what I have invested I would prefer to find an engine with under 100K miles for what I will be using the truck for.

Here's my question: What years will the 4.0 VQ40DE fit in my 2007?....I have been looking for a good used complete motor the the prices vary with mileage. I have my eye on a 2013 4.0L but am unsure if the motor/year is compatible...Is it '05-'10?...or can I look beyond all the way to 2016 engines?...::grin::

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The long block is the same on all VQ40DE engines. They made a slight change to the intake if I'm not mistaken at some point, but that can always be swapped over.

Drain the tranny fluid and make sure it doesn't have cross contamination... if it does, buy the motor and tranny
