I have a 2001 standard cab 2.4l and a little while back i was driving and all of a sudden after 3000 rpm when id nail it it boggs out and gargles
I got it home let it cool off put some gas treatment in and a fuel filter thinking that was it... it wasnt.. It sounds almost loaded up.. I unbolted my cat and ran it str8 to see if that was tthe problem.still no fix...
that next morning i took it to my mechanic On the way naturally she ran like a champ. he couldnt find any codes exempt for this evap leak code ive had since i purchased the truck (not the problem..)
today i drove a good 200miles and on my way home she started loosing power once i went up the slightest incline and slowed down more and more from there..
once again took it to the mechanic while it was doing it and still no new codes....
it seems to be misfireing..its got newer plugs its not that...

your fuel pump could be starting to go. Its a random thing? That happen on my chevy it would start to bog out and then would go. It ended up being the fuel pump.

Fuel filters are a culprit of plenty of problems like this. Cheap fix and if doesnt fix it your not out much. i would have thought your mech would have suggested this though...
