I had to pull codes on my truck today (stupid crappy connectors haha) and i was using my shop's Snap On Verus VERUS® Platform

It's basically the most badass scan tool on the market. has a lot of the factory tool functions from Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc.

So under "special tests" for Nissan, you can adjust the timing. 30 seconds later my timing was +2*. There is also idle adjustment there too.

This got me thinking that there are probably other scan tools on the market that have the OE "special tests". Any techs on here go round up your scan tools and see which ones can do it.

Man, Im getting pissed now, off topic, but Ive been trying to do this forever like I said and since you commented on how much you liked it and the snap on verus was able to do it. Ive called like 10 auto mechanics and theyve all told me Im stupid basically, but they didnt have the snap on verus. The last guy I talked to had the verus but argued with me for like 10 minutes that there is no such thing as a 2* timing advance and that it is impossible, he wouldnt fricken believe me.

Anybody on here in so cal that is a mechanic or something that might have this tool I would love to meet up and try and do it. Im begging you.

Ask them to at least try it. Most guys with the verus don't know what it's capable of.

Initally, the verus won't due it do to the ECU acting weird. Trick was to restart the test without cycling the key.

Ya yay! I finally got the advance from the uprev cipher software. I think it was worth it. No huge gains but I can definitely feel the difference on my 4 banger. A lot more pull in the lower rpm range like 2,000-3,000.

the most noticeable thing about it wont be so much felt on the butt dyno as you will notice the increase in response atleast thats what i think i mostly noticed about it. if you can do it with a obd tool or programmer that you already have or can get someone that has something that can do it i say why not take advantage of it.

Unfortunately am in Ontario, Canada but if I was in Cali I would do it for you for free.

Other than the Android app mentioned here, and the Snap on scan tool, the MaxiDas DS808K can also do it. Just did it to my Frontier plus bump up the idle by 112 RPM... good luck
