Well i have a 2010 PRO4 with a 6-speed (3000mi) that makes a strange oscillating sound at times. It is hard to explain but i'll give it a shot. When the truck is good and hot and you accelerate from a stop to a shift point of 3k ish the last 500rpm sound similar to out of balance washing machine starting to spin.
But after you grab 2nd the noise does not happen in any other gear.
Additionally, if i hold 1st gear and run at 2000-3000 say crossing a parking lot or on my driveway it will make the same noise. But only at normal temp.
Thoughts?
Other than this occasional noise my new Frontier ROCKS!!!

noisy synchro maybe, i've never driven one of the 6 speeds of these trucks though so i can't say how noisy they tend to be. hopefully the 6 speed guys chime in. there are some cars that tend to have noisy synchros, especially noticeable when downshifting

Our 6 spds are known to have noisy synchros. I know mine has been noisy in the lower gears since it was almost new. The noise is always worse when the tranny is good and hot. And I have checked the dealer several times about it and they said it's normal. I know the Z guys have this issue alot, and there is several threads on their forums about it, and again they say it's normal. I tend to think the higher the hp and the more aggresive you drive the noisier your synchros get on these nissan 6spds. Anyway, not sure if this is your problem, but to be safe I would take it in & see what the dealer says.

Mine does this, trans. has 10Kmi on it. Got a new transmission for free even though I didn't need one because ECU was dead, changed transmission first, turned out to be the ECU instead, left the new transmission in.

Anyhoo, mine does this too when it's warm, without the electric fan running and the windows down, I can hear it, only does it when I'm light on the throttle. Does exactly as you describe only just before the 1st to 2nd gear transition. Kind of a higher pitch electric motor wind up noise and then it disappears.

Wow, I have no idea how I missed that, what an idiot I am. But oddly, I have the same noise. Weiiirrrd.
you could have timing tensioner noise, maybe check out some of the threads and videos on it. if the noise you hear sounds like a supercharger thats mostlikely it.
