So I stripped a couple studs and lug nuts this weekend rotating tires and I went to a major after market parts store and they were selling similar lug nuts and studs for about 2 bucks a piece. I didnt want to buy something that wasnt guaranteed to fit, so I sent the wifey out to the dealership to get 6 studs and 12 lug nuts just to have for future potential problems and the bill was $196.00. WTF!!!!???

Not yet. I am ordering new rotors since I will have to take them off anyway. Might as well put slotted ones on while I am in there...
^replacing wheel studs is a little tougher than rotating tires...
How far did they get cross threaded? See a shop.. maybe they're fixable.

G/L!

2 lugs are completely stripped and the 2 of the studs have a burr in them, hence the reason for the stripping... I really only needed to buy 2 studs and 2 lugs but I figured I would by a few extra for the future. I didnt have the dealership do them. Just bought the parts...

Your dealer gave it to you without vasoline... When i striped my drivers rear, i got 6 studs for 1.19 each... And lugs wernt that much more maybe 2 bucks at the most from discount tire, they gave them to me for free when i asked to buy 6.

Wow that's terrible, whats the breakdown of the bill? price per studs/price per lug nuts...I think we sell them for around .50 at Costco for when people come in getting tires, Hondas are notorious for mushrooming lug nuts, you should just get pro comp set of nuts 21124EXP : Premium Lug Nut Kit at StylinTrucks.com

Oof! bummer!!!

I just had a flat last week, went to change the tire, found a rusted and broken lug-key on that wheel. Did EVERYTHING to get it off, broke many tools, torched the shi* out of it, leschwab and a couple other tire shops said "uhh,.." .. cut the rim off, 1 rim down.. poo.

I hate to ask, but how did you do so much damage just rotating your tires? :-(
I've heard of/seen some guys do it from putting the lug nut in an impact, then driving it right on instead of threading it on a couple threads by hand then hitting it with an impact. Crossthreads the living **** outta the stud if you don't do it right. It's amazing what flat rate can do to some guys.

couldn't you just have drilled out that lug/stud instead of cutting the wheel?

Ugh. I do my own rotations to save money, but it looks like I may be saving more money that I estimated by avoiding this kind of beat-the-clock shop idiocy. Sheesh. I use a torque wrench on mine and of course hand thread.

2 lugs were stripped because 2 of the studs had burrs on them. Yes, I used a torque wrench and the lugs strip super easy. The studs are hard to strip. I just bought extra just in case. Going to return them now because 200 bucks is crazy. I am keeping the 2 studs and 2 new lugs to fix the issue so that I dont strip more lugs on the burred studs.
