Thought I'd chime back in on this one.
I don't have a warranty. I have a transmission left even after all the towing and off-road.

With that said back to the original post. 10hp gain in Sport Truck mag. Well, I found that article. I believe it because they used a pos truck that was overdue for service. They got the gain.
For 80k, I've run synth in my tranny. This weekend, I went full blown synth except for the front axle (I changed it last month) Mixed some Lucas in with the RP for friction in rear and tranny. Synth in motor & new filter. Synth in t-fer case. I don't think I got the 10hp gain (my truck wasn't as bad off as the Sport Truck). BUT, my fronty has never run as smooth.

AMSOIL and Royal Purple are not your average Synthetic the difference between Mobil 1 and AMSOIL is like the difference between Dino and Mobil 1.... Running an engine over 10,000 miles on Mobil 1 is insanity... doing it with RP or AMSOIL is conservative... if not wasteful.

i think nissan recommended to replace oil and filter at 3750 mile. not 12k

oil is oil my friend. they got burn and get hot, and they will turn it too black.

if your reach 60k on your engine, i'd like to see the oil pan and the valve train on that because u just got 5 or 6 oil change.
how bout 250,000 on my jeep... i was not the first owner, but he also used AMSOIL, i only had it for the last 50,000 miles... thats 4 oil changes.

Sounds to me like you are fishing for problems...

Do what you want to, to your truck...

but blathering on and on about going insane amounts of miles between oilchanges is not the smartest thing to do on a public forum.

as I said.. it may give the wrong impression... and we dont need VQ40 grenades all over the place.

and for one thing those 4L 1-6's in the jeeps are bullet proof... an engine that responds well to abuse... IE doesnt die.

OK, hows this... this is what i did. and what converted me.

next Oil Change, Use AMSOIL.

at 3,000 drain it... look at it.. and be honest with yourself about what you see... then if you still don't believe your eyes and our words... go have it analyzed... heres nsome info on AMSOIL and lubricant analysis
http://www.practicingoilanalysis.com/article_detail.asp?articleid=163&relatedbookgroup=Lubrication

if it's still good, put it back in... you'll learn quickly that what you think you know, is not what is fact.

Car companies recomend 3,000 miles because AMSOIL and royal purple are not the only lubricants out there, most people would rather just by cheap dino oil and thus REQUIRE a change more regularly... Low end Oils like Mobil 1 are still just that... low end... if we abolished all othe rlubricants then Nissans manuals would likely say 12,000 miles as that is a conservative change... and it would be commonplace for people to go up to 20,000
see, your frame of referance is scewed... an AMSOIL vehicle going 20,000 is on par with a car running low end synth going 5,000...
12,000/3,000 = 4.
20,000/4 = 5,000

Where you demonstrate your lack of understanding is you keep saying things like:
"i think nissan recommended to replace oil and filter at 3750 mile. "
yes they do, but AMSOIL is not oil its a synthetic lubricant... a filter is still a filter.

Good point...

EVERYONE PLEASE CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 3,750 MILES or sooner... i suggest 3,000 miles personaly.

Now if you're running AMSOIL and checking the quality and condition of your Synthetic lubricant reglularly... donb't be surprised when the AMSOIL salesman doesn't remember who you are the next time you pick some up.

I agree that the current specs from nissan are a conservative way to stop engine damage, but they are not based on modern lubricants... that is like saying that it will take a month to drive from Los angeles to New York... because after all Cars can only go 20 MPH... Dino and other low end lubricants should be changed every 5,000 miles AT MOST, 3,000 is a better idea.

Wow, I just realized this is my first day here... none of you know me from the Xterra Owners Club so I may seem like a bit of an ***... for that I appologize, really though in the automotive enthusiast world, AMSOIL and Royal Purple and there properties and advantages are quite well known... I was more surprised that everyone here had no knowledge of them than anything else.

angain I appologize if i ruffled feathers... i have a habit of doig that, it's not intentional I swear.

I used to always use mobil 1. But I had a free first oil change with my new Frontier. I asked for mobil 1 But they only had Elf full synthetic. I never heard of it before but the service guy said it was the only Nissan approved synthetic. He showed my the product Literature showing it was approved by nissan, I said fine use it I'll just switch to mobil one my next change. I check my oil every time I fill up with gas and noticed right away that this was the clearest oil I have ever seen. 500 miles later it started to look like wesson vegstable oil, after that it stayed that color all the way up to 4000 miles when I got my next oil change, It looked cleaner than brand new mobil 1. I know for a fact that I could go longer on this oil, but I won't for warranty purposes. But I'm starting to feel like I'm wasting money changing perfectly good oil every 4000 miles. The price is $28 dollars for a 5 quart jug. I've never used asmoil or royal purple but they do sound like they are better oils but with the extra cost I'll be wasting more money changing every 4000 miles. Maybe when my warranty runs out. But I'm now a believer that there are better oils out there besides Mobil 1

I also forgot to mention.....AMSOIL reccomends 25,000 miles OR 1 year. So in all actuality I will probably be changing it every 12,000 miles.

Hit 3400 miles and finally did the oil change today. The AMSOIL is supposed to help gas mileage but I never really figured the exact mileage before I put it in.....so if it does, it does. One thing I did notice, when cruising at highway speed....it runs about 200 RPM higher with the new oil in it.

The Amsoil PDF says that the regular service is 100,000 miles and severe use is 50,000 miles.

Here's the link. https://www.amsoil.com/lit/g1490.pdf

The oil statements are in the center inside the box.
