I would definitely go the full oil change interval on the break in oil. That way any materials that may float around through break in can get passed through and filtered. It is reccomended that once you use synthetic oil, not to go back. Since most synthetics last longer anyways, it usually equals the same price or sometimes less.pukas84 said:I got a '06 crew cab se with about 400 miles on it so far. I was thinking of switching to synthetic oil. Some say to switch after break in and some did it earlier. I drive my truck about 5 miles round trip to work and back home. When should you change to synthetic oil? Also is is bad to switch back to dino oil later on?
i changed mine at 1000, but about going back, on my last car, my dealership changed my oil once without telling me first, so they made my car go back to dino...i didn't see anything different in behavior...so I don't think switching is that bad...although it's probably not recommended.pukas84 said:I got a '06 crew cab se with about 400 miles on it so far. Synthetic oil will not void a warranty, but not changing any oil for 15k to 25k miles probably will. And does it void the Nissan extended warranty if you only change the oil every 15,000 or 25,000 with synthetic oil?
i've been using synthectic Mobil1 since 7500 mile, now i got 32k.tgbiden said:Not engine maintenance inclined...
So is this HP improvement with an Automatic or a Manual transmission that you're supposed to get the bonus? Or does it even make a difference?
I have a manual transmission in my 2006 with about 4200 miles and I was thinking about switching to synthetic at the next oil change but I hadn't thought of the other oils. I guess you recommend changing them all... And does it void the Nissan extended warranty if you only change the oil every 15,000 or 25,000 with synthetic oil?
Thanks!

Yall are failing to realize that synthetic oils have a MUCH LONGER LIFE than conventional oil. All you know is that all your life you have been told to change the oil every 3000 miles. Your engine dont know how many miles it has been since your last oil change......it just wants good oil. And if the synthetic oil is still good after 15,000 miles.....why change it? You have to change your way of thinking. Dont assume Im stupid for not changing my oil every 3,000
i would not go for 15,000 mile and never go 25,000BudrBean said:I wouldnt say that you never have to do it again......it just changes your normal intervals. Like when Im due my first oil change in about 600 miles, I am switching to AMSOIL Pure Synthetic. It was $60 for oil and filter, but its guaranteed for 25,000 miles. Personally Im not gonna go that long on the first one......maybe 15,000 then cut the filter open to have a look inside my engine. And if all is well, I will go 25,000 the next time.

You said you only drive 5 miles a day. In the automotive world this is termed "rough driving conditions". Your engine is manufactured to operate most efficiently at normal operating temperature. And if you are driving only 5 miles, very rarely would it get to temperature. While there is obviously nothing you can do about it, it is actually more strenuous on your engine. Myself, I am going to use AMSOIL Synthetic 5w30....guaranteed to last 25,000 miles, but in a situation like yours they reccomend a change every 15,000.
Hope this info helps
oh they will know trust me, if you go 15k,25k they will know...they will not see it in your oil filter like you said by cutting/open it up.BudrBean said:I do my own vehicle maintenance, how is a dealership going to know when I change my oil?
BudrBean said:You guys are basing this off of a vehicle using CONVENTIONAL OIL. Once again.....SYNTHETIC OIL IS FORMULATED TO PREVENT SLUDGE AND BUILDUP AND CAN BE GUARANTEED FOR UP TO 25,000 MILES!!!!!
All I can say to you is, IF and I mean IF you have an engine problem (trust me I have been through it), they may demand reccords of your oil changes, I'ts not hard for a mechanic to look inside an engine and see how often the oil has been changed, typacly a motor who's oil has been changed at irregular intervals and who's oil was left in for long periods of time will build up sludge, and believe me, it saved my *** that I used mobil1 and changed it every 3k, even though I couldnt produce the reccords, the mechanic, my last car had the engine replaced at 42k, said the engine looked like it had less than 3000 miles on it, and if it werent for all the metal flakes everywhere he would have thought that nothing was wrong.BudrBean said:I do my own vehicle maintenance, how is a dealership going to know when I change my oil?
