From the FSM for an '07

REMOVAL
CAUTION:
-Do not attempt to repair or replace damaged direct-connect SRS component connectors. If a driver air bag direct-connect harness connector is damaged, the spiral cable must be replaced.
-Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes.
-When servicing the SRS, do not work from directly in front of air bag module.

1. Disconnect both the negative and positive battery cables, then wait at least 3 minutes.
2. Locate retaining clip access hole and insert suitable 4mm - 6mm blunt tool.

CAUTION:
Do not use sharp edged objects such as screwdrivers to release driver air bag module from steering wheel, SRS components may be unintentionally damaged.

3. Press upward (toward center of steering wheel) on retaining clip until driver air bag module is released from steering wheel.
4. Lift the driver air bag module from the steering wheel.
5. Disconnect the driver air bag module and horn connectors, then remove the driver air bag module.

Thanks Ryan B. I followed those instructions earlier, I read when you press on the retaining clip the air bag is suppose to pop off, but this does not happen to mines. I don't know what i am doing wrong, or if there is another clip somewhere.
I'll look at the pictures in the FSM again, but I don't remember seeing anything unusual.
how do you unplug the airbag module without breaking the plugs? do i unplug it from the clock spring or from the module itself (orange and yellow plugs) the two on the back of the module itself have been plastic welding into place

I am having this same problem on an '09 frontier while attempting clock spring module change. Did you ever have any luck?

Have you looked at these two YouTube video?? It shows you how the release mechanism works on the driver side airbag.

If you got the bottom portion of the airbag to release, the top portion might still be stuck. You might need a second pair of hands to help you out as you try to remove the airbag module. One person using a screwdriver to push on the spring clip on the underneath portion of the steering wheel, while the second person pushes DOWN on the TOP portion of the airbag while at the same time trying to PULL the bottom portion of the airbag out. It's possible that the airbag module could be stuck on the upper portion of the metal clip that holds it in.

EDIT:
D'OH!! Just responded to a 2010 post!! Check YouTube on how to remove the Clock Spring Cotpusher...
