When my truck idles, the oil pressure gauge goes almost to the low line but when driving it goes back up to normal....is there something wrong ? The oil levels in the truck are spot on when i check

No, the 05s had an actual gauge not just a dummy gauge. When your truck idles the oil pressure is lower than at higher revs.

i know the gauge doesn't have numbers on it but just for reference when at idle the oil pressure should be at 14 psi or higher and at 2000 rpm the oil pressure should be at 43 psi or higher. my z (what have pretty much the same oil system pump and all) seemed to sit aroun 15ish at idle, when it was cold during easy acceleration it would get up to 110, when warm normal acceleration got up to 50-60 and hard acceleration was around 90-110. just to give you an idea of how much oil pressure really fluctuates.

The oil gauge on my 2005 v6 hasnt fluctuated one bit from the center of the guage for 92k miles. Yesterday I noticed that when I was pushing the clutch in and letting off the gas the needle would drop to almost the bottom of the gauge. The engine oil is fine, but I have been recently having problems with the relays. Any ideas if these problems are related? Colin123 you mentioned fluctuation is normal but why wouldnt it fluctuate for the prior 92K, is it safe to run like this?

Have yall never driven any other cars w/ an oil gauge before the Frontier? All cars fluctuate oil pressure between idle and high rpm's (unless its a dummy gauge that acts like an on/ off switch). Its totally normal, and its not going to blow up, leave you stranded, steal your money, or call you bad names.

05' Frontier's have dummy oil gauges. If the truck has pressure at all then the guage will read normal. If it doesn't have pressure then it will show low. Mine has been out for 6months.

actually the 05s from the factory are the only year to have a real pressure sending unit and not just a pressure switch so when yours was working it should have shown a difference in pressure from idle to driving. if your not the first owner maybe the unit went bad and was changed at one point with just the pressure switch unit

It's unfortunate that owner misunderstandings about something as simple as oil pressure and its relation to engine speed led to the decision to turn the gauge into something rather useless. I guess it's part of the trend these days to simplify and automate everything so as not to challenge or worry owners. Sigh. How many people out there think that the OIL light indicates it's time to add oil? Plenty I'll bet.

Very good point. I did buy it used so that could be the case. Dealarship told me that the 05's were dummy gauges but he could have just been trying to get my off the phone.

dealerships are good at that, with most people it tends to work for them with just about everything. i think they train them to say "its normal" to just about anything too heh

I have an 05 Nismo. My gauge used to work great (read the true pressure), but now it reads at the highest level ALL the time. Anyone have any idea why?

As for 05's, it's not just the sending unit thats different, it's the internals on the gauge it's self too..

More than likely the OP sending unit failed... check wiring, replace.. should be cheap, likely hard to get to LOL
