Evenin' everyone!
I've got an 05 Frontier XE (the base model 2.5L) and i've been hearing a hissing noise coming from the rear of the truck for well over 4 years now. It sounds like something is dragging on the rotor but I've been into the rotors twice and found no issues, no marks on the rotors looking like anything is scraping/dragging. Most recently I replaced the rotors, pads, e-brake pads, and e-brake springs to be safe. Cleaned everything to make sure no rocks/road tar was caked up... and still a hissing noise that gets louder as I accelerate. It doesn't change pitch UNLESS the truck goes over dips/bumps etc and the body/bed gives (little up little down).
It's not a grinding noise or a squealer like on the brake pad... just a hissing noise. I'ts not a growl like a differential going bad (I've heard those before) and if it was a wheel bearing I'd expect some cupping on one tire or the other, but that's fine. Maybe a u-joint??? I did note that when Iv'e changed out my pads they're pretty tight against the rotor on the reassembly, but I'd expect those to wear a little shortly after installation making the sound stop.
This one's driving me nuts and expensive to keep trying things so any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
JT
