PLEASE READ...Answer to Your Rattle Problem.

I had a rattle that annoyed me for a month. It sounded like both coming from behind the cluster or in the engine compartment even at idle. One day I took the time to really track the rattle. I pinpointed my rattle coming from the metal air conditioner line on the driver side of the engine where it meets the firewall. There's a metal tab that protrudes form the line with a ground wire attached to it. I noticed it was touching the paint on the firewall and was wearing it down. I carefully pushed the line away from the hood till it had a space between the tab and the paint and wala' the rattle was gone. Hope this is the same problem on your Fronty and let me know if it fixed your problem. SEE PICTURE of the tab that was hitting the firewall and the little spot it was rubbing on the paint.

Excellent job tracking that down, Gunslinger. I would bet this will be a problem for almost all of us sooner or later.

I have this crazy rattle but it sounds like it is coming from the front passenger side. I inspected under the hood and found my Fuse Box lid really loose, but havent confirmed it is coming from that. :? It only starts making noise at approx 60mph.

I've also got this annoying rattle that seems to come from the center console, but and not sure of it. The rattle comes on when i go about 40 mph in 5th gear (05 XE KC). I made sure there was nothing in the glove boxes when trying to duplicate the rattle. what might be the a cause was i have put in an alpine head but i haven't heard anybody else have this problem, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same rattle sound and it sounded like it was coming from under the dash. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a loose connection on the firewall. Not sure exactly what, but they fixed it.

Gunslinger420,

Good show. I checked mine and although it was not touching it was very close. You
probably saved me a lot of searching at some point in the future. I love this forum for
all of the help I receive.

i too have had a rattle on my dash on the passenger side. i thought it was inside the dash at first. i tried the other fixes that many of you have suggested but they didnit work. i finally had my girlfriend hold the cover for the tweeters and the rattle stopped. i just have to find a way to shim the cover so it doesnt come back.

It's great that folks here help each other like this.

OK, time for my confession.

I picked up my '06 Frontier yesterday and was concerned about a rattle in the back. Took me a while until I realised it was the bed rail fasteners (that come with the truck) rattling around in their cardboard box in the rear seating area.

I felt so dumb!

i made the a/c line clip adjustment as well and i still have that noise behind my steering. it sounds like a metal coat hanger hitting a aluminum rod. i am going to take apart the plastic piece under the steering column and take a peek. apparantly, the "stealer" couldn't find anything.

Gunslinger420,
As my first post here, I wanted to offer a big thanks for that fix. I was convinced I'd have to pull some portion of the console/dash to find that rattle. Sure sounded like the dash stereo frame rattling against the head unit. Anyway... Thanks again.

I took my truck in today because of a squeaking sound in the frontend somewhere. I think it might be suspension because when I go slow over rough pavement is when I hear it the most. First thing the dealer said when he heard it was that he knew what it was and popped the hood and checked that clip in the picture. It was clear and no sign of rubbing. That was not it, but it is nice to know that the dealer knows about some of the little details like that. I will let you guys know what it is and how to fix it when I hear from them.

Unrelated:
My driver side window wants to keep going up or down when it should stop. You can hear the straining of the motor/track when it gets to the stops. Dealer said he knows about issues with it. Anyone else had that problem? Other windows seem to be fine.
