Oooo... This is pertinent to my interests. I have an '05 at 91k and mine has been increasingly noisy.
05-07 Timing Chain Class Action Lawsuit
I received a notice in the mail today that a Class Action Lawsuit against Nissan has been filed for the Timing Chain issue. This is for several Nissan makes, but for the Frontier only 2005-2007. Search the posts for more background on the Timing Chain Guides issue.
Edit: the Class Action is for California and Washington only with V6 engines.

I have an 07 and my chain just started whining a few months ago at 70K mile.

Are the problems only on the 05-07 Frontiers with the V6? I have a mid year production 09 that I just bought but wondering if I can expect this problem to arise or they fixed it by then?
From what I read in that link it only affects people who bought their truck in California or Washington.
I have an 06 and received that letter as well. Reasons for lawsuit:
"failed to disclose the fact that the timing chain tensioning system is defective and prone to premature failure."
"Parts are made of chemicals known to cause cancer" labels have not been applied on certain parts.
If it means fixing our faulty timing chains, I'm all for it!

wasnt this a larger issue than just 05-07 trucks?
It's an issue for many, but not all, 2005-2010 Frontiers/Xterras/Pathfinders with the VQ40DE engine in North America. The timing set was made by Borg-Warner and as the dies that were used for stamping the links of the upper timing chains wore, they started stamping out links that had edges that would cut through the plastic, upper tensioner faces. How much wear was on the tooling at the time of the links stampings determined the quality of the link stamping, which is why some chains start making noise at low miles, some at high miles and some never at all. The updated chains should fix the problem permanently. There was a TSB on the issue, but warranty was limited to the factory 5-year/60,000 miles unless you had an extended warranty to cover it.

I also got same class action suit letter on 4/7/17. Glad when we win it.
Does anyone know an update? I know the case was supposed to be heard the beginning of this month but can?t find anything about an outcome.

ive worked at a law firm for the better part of a decade now, i can 100% say this is true for every single class action i have ever seen. they ****ing suck for the client/victim.The only person that wins in the class action lawsuit is the lawyer.
Class action suits aren’t allowed in Europe as they are ONLY for the benefit of the law firm involved. We live in the greediest place on the planet.

Typically when a recall comes out after you had the repair done, they will only compensate repairs if you have a receipt from a dealer or a professional repair shop. If you do it yourself at your house, you're pretty much out of luck!I went ahead and fixed mine. Should be interesting to see how they intend to compensate me for my work...::wink::
