I have an 06 6 speed. Logged almost 500 miles. 1st gear seems too short but then again, I am used to cars and can see it being beneficial in a truck. 6th is nice but I usually forget to shift into it since I am used to 5 speeds. The throw is a little long but the shift itself seems spot on and is pretty smooth. Clutch pedal is soft, average I guess. I am so used to high performance clutches though, so when i get into one of my other cars, I find the pedal in those cars to be rock hard at first. Not liking that, but I will get used to it... much more important having an easy to drive daily driver! Most of this is nitpicking though. It is easy to drive and it shifts well. I like it and wouldn't have it any other way. Take a test drive and see for yourself, make sure it is for you.

Youv got to see what the truck will be used for. I have an auto cause i work 40 miles from my house and i drive in traffic. So stick was out of the question... Just make sure you make a correct choise from the beggining cause there is no turning back.

While I understand it is nice to have an auto for traffic, manual is nothing to worry about. It is something you get used to and once you have driven a manual for a while it becomes second nature. Then again, this is coming from me, who drives 7 miles to work in off peak hours. Still, I haven't had a "normal" clutch to push down for 10 years.

If you are coming from a aftermarket clutch, the difference of switching to the manual Frontier would be like going to an automatic. Very light pedal feel compared to what you are used to.

No matter what you choose, taking the test drive is the best thing you can do to help with your decision.

Off topic, and this can go to PM if you like, do you have the motor swap in your 240 or is it the stock motor? Always liked those cars and came close to getting one before I picked up the Talon.

SICK SR20DET by the way. I just traded in a heavily modified 1.8T VW GTi. I really miss having a small sports car, but I needed a truck for work.

I've got about 600 miles on my '06 frontier. This is my first stock clutch and first truck so I don't have a lot to compare the tranny to but anyway... Clutch pedal is definitely soft, but the grab point within the clutch travel is well defined and feels strong. Travel between shifts is what I would expect in a truck - alittle long, but not bad at all. I'm excited to break the engine in more because it feels like 1st and 2nd gears are going to haul *** when dealing with city traffic in Philly. Daily driver truck where I don't get out of 3rd gear for the first 20 minutes of my drive and I don't ever wish for an automatic. Manual tranny is so easy to deal with, never a nuisance, and great for grabbing up some traction in the snow.

6th gear is really nice on the highway, but only over about 65-70mph. Great for cruisin and hopefully for boosting the mpg.

Any of you other 6spd owners - please let me know if you have the same problem: When I push the shifter "DOWN" to shift into reverse, I have to manually pull the shifter "UP" to shift into a forward gear. I wonder if there is a spring that is stuck or something and that's why the shifter won't pop back up???

Somethings not right, cause mine pops back out immediately.

The clutch is nice on the 6-speed, feels kinda like the hydraulic clutches on the 6-Speed Accord and S2000. Very easy to depress with a decent amount of resistance, not soggy by any stretch of the imagination. Wish the shifting was a little tighter, but since this is a truck and not a car it's sort of what i expected. The truck feels fast off the line but I haven't pushed it cause I'm only at 60mi and haven't finished breaking it in.

welp picked up the truck on fri. very nice so far. it took me about a day to get used to the softness of the cluch and a couple tried to get it into 6th gear(i kept on going from 5th to 4th.) but i got it all stright now and i'm happy i went with the 6 sp.

matt you might wanna make an appointment with the dealer about your problem, i also havnt had any trouble with my shifter so far.

thanks again to everyone for their help.

I'm taking it in on Thursday for Line-X bedliner, Nissan fixed Bed Extender and Fog Lights so we'll see what they say about the shifter. I've only had the truck for 600 miles (alittle over 1 week). Kinda scared that it's already busted...

I've got the 6spd too and have the same feedback as everyone else. (And mine shifts just fine from reverse to first).
I'm guessing the clutch IS hydralic because the pressure and travel is so soft (and there's this electronic 'clicking' sound when you engage). And the truck has a 'clutchless start' option. So it has to be hydralic or electric of some kind. I think the shifter and clutch are perfect for truck driving, it's so easy to drive it's almost like an automatic (and I love being able to blip on downshifts!!! 8) ) . Except starting on hills in the wet in 2wd!!!!! :p
And when I get in my WRX it feels like a gawdamn go kart!!!!!

Just an update - I'm up to 1200 miles (avg 16 mpg) and the pop in the shifter has only been stuck down once since the last time that I posted about. It only seems to happen after I've been driving for 1.5hrs.+ Dealer "could not duplicate condition" while they had it. Work order says they checked out linkage system. Must be something about when it gets hot??? Still love the 6spd regardless. I considered 1000mi broken in - man this truck can haul @ss. The 6spd is great, almost felt like I was whipping through the gears on my girlfriend's modded sentra se-r spec V.
