Ok guys,

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I have a friend who had an auto computer, a good mechanic. He hooked up to the fronty and found 2 codes that came up. Just to reiterate the problem I am having, the truck miss fires occasionally at an idle. I have replaced spark plugs, wires, Distributor cap, Rotor...

1 of the codes was a knock sensor, the other was electrical system (Not sure what now, yes I should have taken a pic).

He suggested based on what he saw, that I pursue getting a replacement distributor. I remembered reading on here that some guys have fronty distributors go bad on them with high mileage trucks.

So I priced 1 of those at advanced auto. $227 for a new 1. That had a part number of T58 600 which when I looked online, I could not find a match to that number.

So, are you guys familiar with that part number? Who should I be ordering a new replacement distributor from?

Thank you!!

Hertz, I'm curious, what are the problems with aftermarket distributors?
I don’t have any first hand expirence but I’ve read about a rough track record for aftermarket distributors on Nissan motors in general. I know folks with a lot more knowledge and experience than I have recommended OEM only for the distributor. One could argue it’s usually better to buy genuine Nissan or OEM (Hitachi in the case of this distributor I believe) for any part, especially one that plays such an important role in how the engine runs.

A shop diagnosed my daughter's V-6 1998 Nissan Pathfinder as a bad distributor a few years ago, wanted like $700 to fix. She bought aftermarket from an Ebay retailer, was like $82 shipped, 10-year warranty.

I installed this, timed it, worked fine. A year later the set screw holding the distributor rotor came loose, she stalled out; shop fixed that, retailer refunded her money based upon shop receipt. Of course that rotor or set screw had not been monkeyed with in the new distributor.

Just my experience with an aftermarket distributor, one out of one. My own '98 and 2004 Frontiers (4-cylinders) are on their factory distributors.

The issue is quality control and reliability. Genuine Nissan remans are typically as good as the original part and often brand new and just labeled as remanufactured. With aftermarket units, it's a gamble because you don't know of the quality parts used to rebuild (or build them, in the case of "new" distributors) the distributor. Will they be as good as the OE parts, typically Hitachi or Mitsubishi, or some cheap, made in China knock-offs? I've had aftermarket distributors come out of the box not working and/or many that didn't last much longer than when they were installed. The same rule applies to any ignition part, starter, alternator, sensor or fuel pump in most Asian or Asian-based vehicles.

the china-market distributor I bought seems ok , doubtful its going to last very long. I tried to install a new bearing in the orig unit but something went sideways.. I probably ran out of talent on that one!

That's interesting I had the same experience with my OEM distributor. It was pure luck that I noticed the screw and put 2 and 2 together for a quick fix. I assumed this scenario was one in a million, but I guess not.

Still, I agree with Hertz 100% on the use of genuine Nissan parts for anything critical to vehicle operations. The differences in quality are night and day.

MI_nissan_kid - you stated in your initial post that you had changed the spark plug wires. So you say that you replaced those spark wires AGAIN and that fixed it?

Yep, was surprised that the rotor is not indexed like on old VWs, but I'm not an automotive designer.

Well, heres the thing...my memory is not the best. I talked with my dad and he said we did change the wires, and I couldn't remember. Turns out we had not replaced them and the OEM plugs wires were still there at 290,000 miles starting to fail really bad.

Sorry for the misinformation, I am just darn happy this truck is running good now! God is blessing me!! Hoping to stretch this truck out a little long, body is still in good shape and by keeping the ol girl running means I can/should hit a finacial goal of mine. thanks to the Lord!

Any experienced opinions on the RockAuto Autoline Hitachi Type dist? (Part # D7095N) $214.00
The one I bought 2 years ago began a starting issue I've had since then. Timing is spot on though.

Edit: I bought the Cardone unit for like $85, which is now $116...maybe I should have bought the Hitachi unit, but at the time my budget was a lot tighter.
