03 Frontier Fender Flare Question

I was wondering if anyone has removed their stock fender flares without replacing them.

I have seen a crew cab long bed just like mine without the flares.
If I removed these would there be holes in my bed and front fenders?
I like the look of the truck without them, it makes it more stream line imo.

I have searched and came up short.

any ideas or has anyone done this? Pics?
