Exclamation 2001 Frontier - Belt Issues

I recently bought a 2001 Frontier with 208k miles on it. I put some work into it and have had no issues since. However, as of recently, my truck has been squealing for around 10-15 seconds each start. I know it's a belt issue but don't know much else about it. Instead of diagnosing which one is squealing, I might as well just change them all. If you have changed the belts in your Frontier, advice would be appreciated! How many belts are in the frontier? (Looks like 3 to me: Power Steering belt, AC and fan, and Serpantine ??) What exact parts and belts would I need to buy? Any more advice would be greatly appreciated

Many times the tensioner and the idler pulleys are the culprit.

check the tension pulleys the bearings in them can wear out and also look at the crank pulley when the harmonic balancer starts to separate it will cause the belts to squeal. (ask me how I know).

If you want exact parts, you'll need to tell us whether it's a VG33E or a KA24DE engine. Personally, I get Bando brand belts from Rockauto.com. I'll go with Gates when it comes to idler pulleys, which Rockauto carries, as well.

My two 2.4L Frontiers have had belt squealing in the past. I use Gates or Gatorback belts. My 1998 has had both PS and AC idlers replaced (Gates) and the 2004 the PS idler (Gates).

Belts - this is what I use:
Alternator/water pump Nissan 02117-90513 Gates/CarQuest 7355 9.5mm x 920mm

Power steering Nissan 02117-25023 Gates/CarQuest 9495 Goodyear Gatorback 17494 12.5/13mm x 1260mm

AC Nissan 02117-92523 Gates/CarQuest 9365 12.5/13mm x 935mm

'98 2WD, 4-cylinder, 5-speed, white regular cab, purchased in 2004 with 100K on it for the kids to drive, now it's back with us, 237K. 2004 King Cab 2WD, 4-cylinder, 5-speed, electric blue purchased in Dec. 2011 at 89K. Also 1988 Mazda B2200 Cab Plus truck (since 1994, 217K), 2WD, 4-cylinder, 5-speed, great truck. And 1971 VW Convertible (mine since 1976) and 1970 VW (260+K, mine since 1972).

I drive a 3.3L V6, so it is a VG33E engine. From what I've read I see this engine has a timing belt and in the manual it simply says "Generator Belt". That could mean a variety of things ~ AC belt, power steering belt, & alternator belt

Thanks

There is an idler pully, in other words it does no function but to guide the belt. My 2000 desert runner had the same issue. I changed it out and that squeal went away. They, as someone else mentioned, are notorious for freezing up bearings inside and squealing . It will gradually get worse if unchecked

There will be three belts. As I said, I use Bando (or genuine Nissan) when I can, as they do make some of the OEM belts for Nissan and are always the correct size:

Alternator: Bando # 5PK800
A/C: Bando # 4PK1345
P/S and water pump: Bando # 5PK1235

There are two idler pulleys, a smooth one for the P/S and a grooved pulley for the A/C:

P/S idler pulley: Gates # 38005
A/C idler pulley: Gates # 36314

These have nothing to do with the timing belt, but, when I do a timing belt, I get the following:

Gates # TCKWP249 Timing Belt Component Kit with water pump
Pentosin Pentafrost A2 (green) antifreeze
1-gallon distilled water (Walmart)
Nissan 21200-V720A thermostat (gasket is RTV sealant)
Nissan 13042-0B001 (two) camshaft seals
Nissan 13510-10Y10 (07/2000-07/2001) or 13510-10Y12 (07/2001 and later) front crank seal
Nissan 14055-4S110 coolant bypass hose

If you want to replace, or for missing timing cover grommets and/or the seals that sit on the ends of the water pump, get Aisin # SKN001, which also includes the two front cam seals and front crank seals.

Radiator hose set, as needed:

Gates # 22516, 22517 and 22478.
