Long-time lurker

Hello! I'm hoping to get started sharing some of the knowledge I've accumulated over the past 7 years of owning my 2012 PRO-4X 6MT KC.

It currently sits on 255/85/16 Toyo MT's with front spacers and rear blocks on the stock PRO-4X suspension, which is due for an upgrade in the next few months.

I've also done some extensive work on CAN bus monitoring and installed a 7" touch-screen display in place of the stock head unit. I'm using a Raspberry Pi with PiCAN2 CAN-bus board to display data that isn't shown on the dashboard (e.g. individual tire pressures in PSI)

My Frontier is a work-in-progress and I'd love to chat with anyone who has done any digging into CAN bus on these trucks

Very cool on your enhanced display...as I was unaware that individual tire's PSI was accessible data.
~ A few of us have iDatalink Maestro's for displaying OBD data...sure beats the near-worthless dummy gauges.

Slick move on the 6MT...and your first post in just over 6 years!!

Long-time lurker

Very very impressive! (Nice rig too!)

To my knowledge on this forum, you are first Iíve seen that has dug that far. There have been a bunch of us who have dug and dug trying to get access to transmission temperature through an OBD Bluetooth device using custom PID codes, etc., but have never been successful.

Add transmission temperature (hard for you with a manual of course) and a few other goodies and you probably have a device you could sell.

Have you discovered other data in addition to tire psi?

Thanks! I'll post a thread with more details, but for now I've found the following:

Engine RPM
Vehicle speed (corrected for oversized tires)
Gas pedal %
Throttle body %
Coolant temperature
Steering angle
Fuel consumption (in an unknown unit of measure)
Individual wheel speed
Individual tire PSI
Brake depressed
Parking brake engaged
Headlight/parklamp/turn signal states

There's definitely more data in the CAN bus messages, but it will require some reverse-engineering since Nissan has no incentive to publish how it's encoded

Another KC!! Welcome! You have a cool setup. How stable is that Raspberry Pi? We use a few at work for large screen displays and they're a constant battle.

Pretty solid as long as I'm not overloading the power supply with multiple USB devices. I use a Mausberry Circuits 3A Car Supply / Switch, which initiates a graceful shutdown 15 seconds after I turn the ignition key off.
