You can PM him these questions but I think I understand what you're asking. From what I read, I think he's saying that the lock-ring turns counterclockwise to disengage.
--I think he's saying that they are NOT left-handed threads.

As I've never done this job before, I do not know which fitting holds the sender unit itself. Just judging by the pictures in that thread, it looks like the sender just sits in the tank.
