I have the Cobra 75WXST with a Wilson Lil' Will 36in magnet mount antenna. Works great! I am very pleased. I have seen about 14 miles of range out of it thus far. If you decided to go with the Cobra, let me know, I did lots of measuring, wiring, and drilling already for the install. It came out very clean. I can send pics.

Otherwise they are both great CBs.

Good luck

this one's pretty good too if you don't need an all-in-one. has the basic features to get you by if you're not gonna use it all the time, is pretty compact and can be had for less than $40 at most wallyworlds.

oh, and for a mag-mount antenna, i'll second the wilson lil wil. great for the money, and short whip ( i still smack branches just driving around the neighborhood, and it's only a 36" whip!) i got 15+ miles on the way home from work this afternoon with very little static. great performer.

I mounted the cobra under the driver side dash. The All-in-one mic is then mounted to the right of the steering wheel between the steering wheel and the air vent. It is in a good location to see while driving and easy to adjust where it is. I went with this one bc in my previous 03 Fronti, there wasn't much room to mount anything anywhere. One huge benefit to the Cobra, is that you can disconnect the all-in-one mic and store in your house when not using it, and the module is virtually invisible. This also prevents the would-be thug from seeing something *interesting* in your truck while parked in the dark parking lot, and well, I am sure you can see the advantage there...

Isn't the midland the same way? It's just like a portable CB radio with a connector to connect it to your cig adapter, so i'm assuming its pretty large in size?

Is a antenna total needed?

So... A buddy has the Midland that you are looking at. He really likes it. He hasn't been able to get the same range out of it as I have the Cobra with the same antenna. But, keep in mind, CBs are VERY fidgity. Install, good ground, antenna location, type, length, cable, ground plane all are HUGE factors contributing to performance.

If you are just talking to other guys in your group on a trial, you wouldn't need a car antenna, the hand held antenna would work just fine. But if you want any sorta of performance and range, you will need to get a car antenna.

As for size, the Midland is a little bigger, but not by a whole bunch.

Also, my buddies one complaint is that the cig adapter pops out when on some bumpy trails, and half the time he doesn't know it. But a big advantage to the Midland is of course, its a handheld too, right out of the box.
