xe better trade value than se

i went looking at sentras today,,they looked out at truck, asked if it was 4x4 or 4x2..gave me trade quote..then when appraiser went to look at it said he could do 1400 dollars better. because it was 4 cyl and more desired with gas prices,,lol.thats bull some of you here get almost the same as me with the 6 cyl...long story short ,firguired just sales tactic...went to 2nd dealer he told me same thing,,he could do better on trade because of it being 4 cyl...doesnt make sense to me being the price of 6 cyl is more.

Ryan: First of all, there's an old saying "Perception is reality." Most people believe that 4 cyls. get better gas mileage than 6 cyls. In this economy, that's a deal-breaker for the 6 cyl.. Second, my 4 cyl never gets less than 20 mpg and even though I'd like it to be better (particularly on I-5 at 75-80 mph) there are just as many 6 cyl owners on this forum who complain about 14-15 mpg averages as there are those who brag about 22 mpg road trips at 65-70 mph. Fact is, 4s do get better mileage than 6s and that's all that matters to a lot of folks when gas hits $4/gal.

Last weekend driving my CC V6 LWB 4x4 to my inlaws, flat highway no load the entire way, some A/C keeping it around 68-70 +/- I returned 20.1 mpg but I was babying it the entire trip, no full throttle, no thing past 3K etc... In contrast my truck is used for work and loaded up with 400-600 lbs +/- on any given day and I typically get 14.8- 15.3 +/- using it during the week mixed driving. For purposes of this topic, I traded a 2007 Tacoma 2wd (Auto) 4-Cyl non PreRunner model. Empty on the same road trip it would get 24-25 mpg +/- and using it for work would command 17.8 mpg at the very least and as much as 19.8 driving it like grand ma. for my needs, the V6, crew cam and more comfort and utility are worth more to me than the difference between 15-18 mpg.

Towed my small (maybe 2k#) boat about 30mi this tankful. The rest was back & forth to work (some "city", only 15 traffic lights in about 12mi), the rest highway @ 60MPH. 26MPG At close to $4 (and is there really an end in sight; a year from now we'll probably be missing the good old $4/gal days), that may be worth something to someone putting 20k mi on their truck per year; if they can accept the reduced power.

Just as the stealer might have you believe people are lined up to get into a 4-Cyl XE there are and were plenty of people & contractors trading down from fullsized trucks with perception a mid-sized with a V6 will return better millage. I was fooled to a point, my truck gets the same economy if not worse than the latest V8 Silverado. Not that I would want one of those over my Frontier, it just would be nice to have better economy.

Alot of people are exporting cars and trucks these days and all the other countries want 4 bangers. That helps drive the prices too. I have first hand experience with a few different guys who exporter to Dubai, South America and Eastern Europe. It is ridiculous how many people are exporting and what they are taking...but the bottom line is, v6 is not a good option. South America will low ball you by atleast a grand on a 4k truck. Eastern Europe won't even take v6's...taxes double. Dubai will, but I have not worked with them long enough to figure them out.
