heres the pic your talking about. with the tbs gaskets and with that lighting those gaskets are the same color as mine and the oven tested ones-------i think were okay. and im havent a longtime mech/good friend do mine not sure but i feel okay doing with a bit of help either way. question is what happened to upfront's gaskets...................answer my above post up!
OK Guys.
By now, you will have figured out that I know a thing or two about polymers and how they are manufactured into gaskets. In my very first post on this bizzare incident, I urged the powers to be (Will) to investigate a very strange melting of a polymeric gasket. This was ignored and things got ugly. But now there is a light that seems to point to the truth.
The answer is in the above picture. All the gaskets are packaged in a labeled bag. Each label has a part number. Trace the part number and see if it is right for the application. This is not novel, companies do it every day.
Will, on his part should have kept a list of all materials sent out to his customers. It's called a bill of materials. I doubt this happened. Now he has no way to know what happened. But he has a receipt from gasket manufactuerers. This receipt must have part numbers and he can use this to trace to the truth.
And please, no more talk about a sharp edge causing Up's problem. His gasket melted. If you want to get to the truth, use science and inductive reasoning, not incredulous psuedo-science.
Customers should not due this. It is Will's responsibility as he knows the most about the product. He saw Up's picture. How come he did not pick up on the wrong color? To the extent that Will has abdicated this responsibility, it allowed this Board to speculate, guess, insinuate, and so on. This is bad for business.
The ball is in Will's court, he has the part numbers to trace to the truth.
there you go again man, the product itself was not at fault. He accidently probably got the wrong gaskets. You are seroiusly opening your mouth to fast ma. Gasket and the IMS are 2 different things. The gasket should be replaced and see what happens. So stop bashing products man, Do you have an IMS, or anything? so zip it.
I agree its the gasket, wrong ones he must of got.
So will if you see this post, to shut everyone up, you should send upfronnt some factory gaskets so everyone can just solve this solution. I just hate when other people are jumping in without exp. what someone else had.
There I go again? What?
I will not zip it.
In my post you quoted, I quoted the manufacturer that said it was not the gaskets.
I was calling him out on that.
He lost all credibility when he said he will not accept them back for refund or to be fixed but will send out some sylicone.
If he " accidentaly probably got the wrong gaskets" that's too bad for him. He should have tested them then. The "R" in R&D is research. If indead there are different color gaskets then that should have been a huge clue to the him that something could have gone wrong.
I too own a small business and if something like this happened to even one of my customers that had a problem with something I made I certainly wouldn't tell them too bad, here's some caulk, do it yourself.
Some day a man just has to man up for his responsibilites.
If it's not heat-related, the only other possible explanations in my mind are:
a) wrong gaskets or faulty gaskets sent
b) sharp edges cutting gaskets
c) miniature mouse crawled into intake and ate gasket
Or some kind of solvent/ chemical / liquid came in contact with the gaskets causing them to deteriorate or damage their integrity.
Nissan does not care about it's customers or quality after your standard warranty is up. You should strongly consider this if you plan on purchasing a Nissan.
i don't think the edges are a problem. If brutal pulls his out clean then its not the edges. Must be faulty gaskets.
And sorry if i said bad installation cuz i have a good feeling it was gaskets.
Does anyone else with the IMS remember what color they where before they installed, i know mineswere orange like that.
Mine are and were the factory Nissan intake gaskets. I picked up 3 more bags for the install in case the ones in the intake needed to be replaced. They didn't so I returned them back to the dealer down the street. And yes over the years I have seen bad parts in relation to gaskets, and poly bushings for shocks. I was replacing upper yellow poly bushings in a Jag 8 yrs ago and the first 2 I got crumbled in my hand installing. I went back and went through the whole bin of over 20 before I found 2 that where ok. Is this it...maybe, 2 other concerns I have on install are this 1 the bolts that go through the bracket for the intake should be reinstalled so they now pinch the top of the bracket. This is the only thing that supports the weight of the intake other than the ims/intake bolts. And 2 when tightening the bolts for the intake go evenly, it could be possible to ****(sorry these stars are supossed to be a 4 letter word meeening tilted, but since it also refers to a rooster or male anatomy its censored.lol) one side of the intake base/ims and when snugging down the other side it ends up overtorqueing and crushing the other. Think teter toter and fulcrum. Is this what happened? I am expressing some thoughts, and it is now a good general discussion without the previous bashing that will help everyone. What I or someone else takes for granted, someone else may not even know or realise. As I always say experience=something you needed 10 seconds before you got it...

we changed up on the gaskets we were going to use only because of the ease of making them -
every single person who has received an IMS from us has received their gaskets in the factory bag that the gasket comes in - there should be no confusion about this, i purposely sent the gaskets in their factory bag so that the user would have the part number (which is on the sticker on the bag) in case they would need it -

there is one thing that is not being discussed -
did you have your side braket supported? i am wondering if the combination of the sharp un chamfered edge and the weight of the manifold on the one side wore back and forth on them - truely no fault of the gasket -

actually, it looks like it goes along with bill's theory that tightening it down "the right way" may have squished the gaskets to one side, then clamping down on them cut them up on one side.
