It has come to our attention that some people may have experienced some slight issues with the gaskets that come both with the IMS and TBS.
This is an example of what we are talking about below: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is not a result of heat transfer, but a result of two compounded problems. a) we did not chamfer the edges on the slots that hold the gaskets in place. This sharp edge in conjunction with the vibration of the engine causes the sealed gasket to sheer. b) over torque on the bolts to hold the component in place can also cause this to accelerate the wear on the gaskets. Our solution to this issue at hand is two fold. a) we are going to re-design our future IMS's and TBS's to have the chamfered edge so that the pieces will not cut into the gaskets as that is what is happening here. B) for those who currently have IMS's or TBS and have experienced this problem: since replacing the gaskets will not resolve the problem of the wear against the gaskets, users will need to use Permatex RTV High Temperature Silicone. I am willing to send out to each user who can provide pictures of their components to me personally a tube of the silicone free of charge if necessary. Understand, this is not an issue that everyone is experiencing so only if completely necessary will some need the silicone. |

My TBS has chamfered edges. I did notice the sharpness of the edges on the IMS though and I was actually going to take some fine sand paper and chamfer the edges my self. No problem with doing that is there Will?

how about if we have this problem.......we send ours in and you either fix them or replace them with the newly designed ones? this sounds like a much better ideal than slobbering liquid gasket maker all over the intake manifold of my engine.....................

I don't forsee this being a problem at all if this is the solution you would like to try, only because it's the main culprit to the problem - i would suggest a good small file as well when working on it - after all its just metal and can be adjusted as needed Last edited by wperdigon : 04-02-2008 at 11:35 AM. So you want us to replace the gasket completely with a bead of silicone? Or use the stock gaskets in conjunction with silicone?

with a bead of silicone - no need to use the gaskets supplied, but do this only if you have taken off the component, and need to replace the gaskets - if your not experiencing any problems, i wouldn't worry about it

instead tells us to use silicone instead of the gaskets if you have the problem. i can almost guarantee everyone who has this installed if they would take their ims off, ill bet they have the same issue as upfront. im not fond of using silicone to seal the ims with the manifold, whos to say the silicone wont fail? stevet47 posted up that he tightened his correctly and can still see gasket starting to show..............................meaning over torquing is not an issue as much as the sharp edges. and also no mention of torque specs, so i wish everyone would quit saying torque and say tighten. what i want from you will is to send my ims back and either fix the edges or give me my money back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cause right now im pretty pissed that i have to deal with something like this. and im glad i never put in feedback considering this problem and where its going to be resolved......................... doesnt give me much confidence to see the manufacturer of this product say too bad if your having this problem-fix it yourself and thats the only option. [ Understand, this is not an issue that everyone is experiencing so only if completely necessary will some need the silicone.[/quote] you dont know if this is true because not everyone(only one person) has taken their ims off..................................ill bet money that 99% of the people who installed this are having the problem. no tq specs to tighten to, all ims's are the same with the same gaskets, geeeeeee i wonder if everyone has the same problem????????? and will, you yourself said in the thread -that you decided to delete(btw nice way of being sneaky and hiding the bad that we should all have the privelege of reading-the purpose of the forum)- it is because of the flaw in the design on the product itself - the edges not being chamfered is causing the gaskets to sheer... so your telling us that you are the cause of the design flaw yet we have to fix it ourselves.
