When to get service??

Do you guys go by the month (ie every 3 months) or by the mileage (ie..3750)? Right now I'm almost @ 4 months with only 3000 miles. I'm running a little less than 1250/months. What effect does this have on warranty?

For the purpose of the warranty it is whatever comes first (time or mileage). From memory, I think the oil change interval is 3750 miles or 6 months.

Since your truck is new, it is a good idea to change the oil a little sooner. When an engine breaks in, bits of metal will end up in the oil, oil pan, and filter. You want this out of there fairly quickly.

I typically change the oil for the first time around 1500 miles, then every 3K or 6 months.

If you have oil change reciepts you're covered as far as warranty is concerned.

As for proper maint. I always advise mileage intervals unless the vehicle sits dormant in a non-climate controlled environment for a long time (months) or is driven only very short distances. 3750 is fine for most conditions and oils, synthetics can go farther. Always change the oil AND the filter. In my opinion the first service should come sooner than recommended even if you have to pay for it, but a lot of owners even pass the recommended miles with no real detrimental effects to the engine.
