I took mine off by myself to straighten the pivot hinges. I bent one of them backing into a loading dock. It was a little heavy, but if you are careful it's really not to bad.

Thank you Clint, I was unaware of this study done that disproves any mileage improvement when removing the tailgate. While you lose the "vortex
push" when removing the tailgate you also reduce total weight the truck is carrying. I imagine its about break even....that is no improvement.

Thank you all for your comments, I guess I won't be taking if off.
