weight of the tailgate, can 1 person remove it?

I was reading the owner's manual and it stated that they recommend two people when trying to remove the tailgate. I live alone, so how many of you think one person can remove it without having to drop it? I am thinking I can lift about 80 lbs maximum for a short while...so you think the tailgate is heavier than that? HAve any of you removed it using just one person without dropping it? Thanks for the help.

Suggest that for the first time you have two people, then you can make an educated judgement for yourself safely. FYI, I also have done mine by myself.

Re-installing can be a little awkward the first time, but its easily do-able. I'm around 5'11" 165 if that helps

You might want to roll up a heavy blanket and place it on top of the bumper and place another one or two on the driveway below. That way, if it's too heavy or awkward, you'll have a cushioned place to set it down. Smart of you to think of this!

I take mine off and on by my self.. putting it on is a little tricky 'cause my taligate hinges are bent, (who's arn't?) so it take little bit of force to pop it in.

Ya, our tailgates are exremely light. They are a little akward, first time itll be a little weird to get balance with it, but its not hard at all. Just open it, grab in center, tilt to I think it's like a 45* angle and lift. My hinges are bent too, I had to take mine off to pound out a dent that I got in it from the tailgate lifting up when it was opened once I think. Not that hard to do.
