i think it is a precaution on tier part in case it pops in gear or something

i think putting the t case in neutral is advised too

If its a stick (manual) transmission, you can stick it in nuetral and will be fine.
If its an auto, you need to pull the shaft.

My bad, T-Case neutral is also acceptable, auto or not.. (he didn't say whether it was 4x4 or not)

Driveshaft disconnected is the best way. Its usually pretty easy.

If you leave the transmission in neutral in does not get any lube while some parts are still moving.

you need to check his manual since all cases and trannys differ. and a blown auto is pricey. If you need to pull the shaft just pull the rear u-joint and ratchet strap the shaft up securely.

Oh cmon people.
LOL
Seriously .
Ive towed hundreds of cars on my dolly .
Manual - put in nuetral and lock the steering wheel.
Auto - put key in ign, set tranny to nuetral , return key to off and lock steering wheel.
Thats it.
The only cars that need rear driveline removal are AWD subarus .
Thats my .02.

what about towing on a dolly backwards? Just asking as i really don't know. Tow trucks tow cars backwards, but is it a dangerous move on a dolly? I've only towed bugs on a tow dolly, and just left them in neutral.
