Nissan needs to reengineer these trucks. From looking at those pics if I or any large adult was in the rear they would be really injuried or possible death. The roof line is lower than the headrest. I work at a Law Firm w/ all kinds of personal injury cases and this is a fine example. I bet you Nissan went back and messed with the framing of the pillars/roof to make it cheaper on them by using 'cheaper metal' and also did other 'modification' of the beams to make them lighter. I'm sorry, but this scares me now! I would rather have a few extra pounds of metal and protect me rather than this. Not only that, but this was not even a high speed roll over. the f-150 owner clipped you while you was driving to the median to get away which mean the force that was applied the the roof/pillars was not that strong. I could go on and on but I wont. Just glad everyone was ok.

We're talking about a 4,000 pound truck here.

We were on a toll road that has a speed limit of 65. The toll booth was backed up and as soon as the F150 came over an overpass, I saw in the rear view mirror that we were in trouble. I was rolling at about 15 mph and I am sure that he was going maybe 50 if you can bleed that kind of speed after you lock up your brakes. Overall, when considering the speed, I think that the truck held up pretty well. If I remember right (I am probably wrong), there are not any standards when it comes to roof structures on vehicles.

To one of the earlier posts, no, I did not have side air bags, but that is a requirement now. To another post, I will try to part some things out on the truck. The towing hitch actually looked in pretty good shape, did not appear to be bent. Is there anything else that you guys want me to try and salvage? Not sure if I can yet, but I'll try. The part money will help me get another car seat!

The guy in the F150 was a paramedic in training and he ran over to immobilize my wifes neck as I was trying to take care of my daughter. We landed upside down, so getting her out of her car seat was hard.

I am taking my time now. Here in FL, we have no fault insurance, so my insurance is covering the first 10k of medical before they sue GEICO (his insurance) to cover the remaining amount. We have been to the emergency room and our primary care to get looked at and to start a document trail. Both my wife and I have a physical therapy consultation this week.

I am not a really religious guy, I do believe is some sort of higher being, but there was something watching over us that day. Ironically we were on our way to pick up wifes new Nissan Rogue.

Thanks for all of the replies and well wishes. It's between a new Frontier and a Murano, they don't have any deals on the Murano yet.

Thanks,
Ryan

I hope you never need to rely on this but, the 2009 Murano did very well in the crash tests recently and is a great vehicle overall. You've more than paid you dues in this wreck, may you never even get a scratch on a vehicle again! Since the 09 actually costs less than a 08 Murano it may be a while to find a deal/discount on them.

Glad your safe!! That says something for the NISSAN build quality ( and your quick thinking)!

As mentioned, got to Edmonds.com & print out the invoice price ( including invoice cost for all options. Then bring it shopping. ANY reputable dealer should give you his cost minus factory rebates without any grief. ( i.e invoice cost , you keep the rebates) If you haggle , you should even be able to go a few hundred below invoice. ( I had several dealers go 200-400 below invoice last year.) They get a factory kickback so they are still making $ on a below invoice sale. Bottom line, you should be able to trim near $6000 off that sticker.
Search "price" here as this is discussed ALLOT!.

p.s. On the bright side, At least a trade won't mess up your price. negotiations

WOW. Glad you are OK!
I agree with the one or two others that the rear collapsing is a bit worrysome - I hope your daughter was behind your seat.
Something to be said for nizmut's custom rack, I suppose.

That definitely looks real nasty. I am extremely happy you and your family is alright. Looks like it could have been much worse.

As far as pricing, I would suggest buying the car online and avoiding the dealers all together. I am pretty sure you will get the absolute best pricing via the web. Good Luck.

glad to hear you're okay. i'm sure you could get at least 2k off the sticker price. emailing the internet managers at each dealer will help you get a good price. plus you won't get hounded by the salesman when you're browsing at the dealership.

Yes we are but when you add weight to a vehicle you have to add support for a wreck such as this.

I've been on this forum for over 2 years, and have seen some really nasty accidents, and I've never heard of anyone being HURT after any of them. Everyone has walked away. I'm perfectly confident. as is the owner.

Anyway, glad everyone is alright, sucks that you had it for so short of a time .
I have seen some nasty ones to but I can pretty much gurantee you that if an adult are tall kid was in the rear it would have ended up differently and then every one elses views would be different.

The rest of the truck did its job. Its just the rear Im worried about. You cant tell me you are not worried about that.

So when he hit you, you were prob/ rolling approx 30-40 mph. the energy would get lost as it was going from his vehicle to yours. So, still that is not a 'high' speed roll over. The roof structure in the rear should be better supported.

Yes, there are guidelines to 'rollovers'. but in all honestly they are only on the front. they do not care about the rear and thats exactly why the rear caved in. The only testing has to be done on the front and thats why it is so strong.
