Too firm seats on '08 Frontier?

I'm ready to trade my 4X4 '94 Hard Body w/186k mi,for a new truck so the first thing I test drove was a new '08 Frontier SE.

Just as I expected, it's a very nice truck, but the seat-back seemed to be VERY firm. Then when I got home read some road test reviews on the internet, and found a comment saying the same thing.

I'm not sure if this will be a problem for me, as I seldom drive less than a hour. I'm wondering if these seats sort of break-in like a very firm bed.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks,

~Ed

They do wear in some; but from the moment I drove mine they have felt perfect. Much better than any of the other vehicles I have driven recently...which is an awful lot.

r.ed: Seats are kind of a subjective thing, but after a year in my '07 XE, I find them to be just average at best. You tend to "settle into" the bottoms a little more than the back and the seat offers little or no lateral support for even mildly spirited cornering. I don't find them to be uncomfortable, just mediocre.

The ride is harsh, not so much the seat being hard. Also, they have multi adjustments (on the NISMO; not sure about the SE) so that should mitigate the comfort issue you may have. My 4X4 '88 Ranger by far road much more comfortably.

Suspension seats: Sounds cool, but expensive.

Please tell me more.

Unless they've changed it, Nissan cheaped out on the SE seats, offering no lumbar and no seat bottom tilt. I accepted this to get a 6-Speed stick, but I still think it's rather stupid not to offer seats with these features like most brands do, even on their lower trim models. Heck, I'd have paid extra for a better driver's seat. BUT, I can live with it.

You're right, seat comfort really is subjective. I do enjoy a more firm seat, and the seat bottom on the '08 I drove felt good, but that seat back is what concerns me.

I just saw a used '05 LE online which has electric seats, so I may go test drive that one.

Thanks again for your reply.

~Ed

I agree, too bad they only offer the more adjustable seat on the upscale models.
